They didn't go with my suggestion of 'Bob Plus with Bing' then?

The real question is: Is it going to be better than 7?

Re: News - Microsoft renames Windows 8 'Metro' to 'Modern UI'

Am I the only one that thinks Windows 8 is visually a step back from 7? Installing Windows 7 feels like a modern operating system to me. Windows 8 with its clip-art fish thing and ugly solid green background makes me feel like I'm installing a refresh of Windows 95. I don't like the tiles either.

Modern UI. Clearly the marketing dept wasn't involved in that decision. I guess most of the world will be wondering what the hell UI stands for.

Like any UI there will be three camps: folks who think it's the best thing ever; other people who take the pragmatic attitude that "it's here, so I'll make the best of it"; and folks who think that it was vomited up by the Dark One himself.

I don't like it, but if it's still in Windows9 then I guess I'll be in the "making the best of it" camp - but it's horrible enough that I'm going to pass on Windows8.

The Office2007+ UI, on the other hand, I still regard as the spew of Satan.

Oh, and I can't see a whole lot of folks referring to it as "Modern UI", firstly because it's too much of a mouthful (what's wrong with abbreviating it - so it becomes "MUI" - pronounced "mooey") and secondly because the whole "Metro" monika seems to have taken root.

Re: News - Microsoft renames Windows 8 'Metro' to 'Modern UI'

Silly name. And I thought Mountain Lion was worst name for anything to do with OS.. I will get the Windows 8 but only because I can get my hands on free version. Other than that I wouldn't spend any money to upgrade to this OS. I have installed it last weekend, the Consumer Preview and went straight back to Windows 7. The whole Metro UI makes me want to puke. And I hate it will all my heart for not being an additional feature and becoming a standard start up screen. Start menu IMO is very handy, especially if you have Win keyboard. I am sure it can be bypassed. I just don't like it. To a point where I think Mac OS is a better option in terms of desktop UI.
So no, I don't like the look, the feel and the sound of it. I won't buy it and will hardly recommend others to.

I've been using the developer preview, couple of small bugs here and there, but I really do like it. Wouldn't it be great if people didn't just jump on the "microsoft is bad therefore everything they make is bad" bandwagon and actually appreciate that microsoft has finally does something different that works.

You are not the only one. I did notice that too. It's one boring looking interface. OS seems fluid and improved in terms of performance but what the hell were they thinking when "Metro" was enabled as default? Bet you if I gave that to my parents or boss at work they would just scratch the head and ask "how do you disable this?".
