News - YouTube is the top choice for teens’ music listening

The rest of us prefer the wireless (Not 802.11, it’s just an old person’s word for radio).

54% have music player apps on their smartphones
47% have radio apps on their smartphones
26% have music store apps on their smartphones
I'm curious about these figures - specifically what smartphone doesn't come with a bundled music player (not sure about Blackberry's) because iOS, Android and Symbian (at least the old one I had) all have this software.

I also thought iOS had some on-device purchase capability (and I guess US teens can use Google Music)

I listen to radio over an 802.11 network, does that count?

iOS has the iTunes Store, Android has Google Play and Windows Phone has/had Zune pre-installed. So unless they're on about 3rd party apps [like amazon mp3] i'm not sure where 26% comes from... Likewise pretty much every new phone out there a music player and/or FM radio

Remember that Google Play/Music doesn't operate outside of the US ... yet?

Based on experiences with my kids, you couldn't sell a phone to teens that lacked a music player - heck all (?) the feature phones that my kids looked at had a basic music feature - even my Nokia 2330 Classic has.

I don't know anyone in my age group (18-21) that listens to the radio; it's full of biased Londoners sprouting off about grime and hip-hop and patronising anyone that listens to anything else. (No offence meant to my southern bretherin.

I'm surprised at how low some of those stats are!

Re: News - YouTube is the top choice for teens’ music listening

By radio, do they mean online radio (Slacker/Pandora/TuneIn etc.) rather than the crappy FM variety (Radio One/local radio stations) which mainly consist of people talking drivel, the same songs being played every hour and adverts?

Well one thing is definitely clear; you don't listen to the Radio.

And how do they get these figures. A survey on an online music related site? Maybe I am going too far...
