That's an excellent logo to be honest. Clean, smart colours. That it makes you think you could have knocked it up yourself is a credit to its simplicity in the positive sense of the word (UX guys will understand what I mean).

1980-81 is most fun to look at in my opinion. I think the 87 logo is perfect for MS. The new one is just an old man in hipster clothes. Dull and cheap looking.

Thats actually half good unlike the new microsoft and even more awful windows (as seen on surface) logos. Why do Microsoft keep putting out half arsed design... I'm guessing its all down to design by committee.

Changing the logo won't change the [low] quality of their OSes and programs, or help with their [bad] reputation. It does look nifty, though. They should have used black font instead of grey, so it would be easier to read, but who reads logos anyway... I always peel of logos or remove them with an axe everywhere anyway. I don't like them, especially when they put a huge logo in front of your eyes like Samsung LCDs. That's so devoid of any taste. yuck.
