Re: News - Lexmark to jettison inkjet printer business

In one way it's a shame to lose Lexmark from this market since for as long as I've had a PC they've been there. However, even now, printing something is the most stressful, irritating and unreliable thing I do with a PC, although thankfully I only need to print something every few months or so these days.

I'll be happy to see printers go the same way as the floppy disk, dial-up modem and CRT monitor.

Not to mention Lexmark printers are consistently some of the worst available

Re: News - Lexmark to jettison inkjet printer business

It seems clear that inkjet is starting to fall by the way side as more and more low price laserjets appear on the market.
Problem I've had for years is that I print about a dozen sheets a year. Inkjets dry up or go out of date quickly.
The ink is becomming ever more expensive and smaller.
Thankfully I can print things at work when required so have no need at the moment to own a printer, but im sure the time will come when I need to own one and dread the cost of ownership.

I wonder if Dell will get a replacement

I always remember Lexmark printers as being cheaper to buy than replace the ink! In fact they used to almost give the printers away. Awful things.

Good riddance. To show my impartiality, I hope the entire inkjet business dries up like their crappy overpriced unreliable cartridges.

    Dell uses Xerox too,AFAIK.

However, when it comes to home photo printing, the higher end ink jet printers are simply better.

Re: News - Lexmark to jettison inkjet printer business

Nothing wrong with inkjet printers. My Brother has done me proud and I can't see that changing any time soon.

Third party ink is about £1 a cartridge, never had an issue with quality, even photo printing is acceptable.

Funnily enough that seems to be the reputation they have amongst people I've spoken to as well. I had one, and I'm happy to say that I managed to give it away to someone else. It seemed to be a collection of all the worst features of every other brand - and I fail to see the sense in a printer where it's actually far cheaper to ditch the printer when the ink runs out and buy a new one. And don't get me started on the drivers ....

If anyone asks me for a recommendation then it's Canon, Epson or HP - and I've positive experiences of all of these (although my current HP does seem to get through a lot of inks carts).

Good riddance to Lexmark says I - they are to printers what RyanAir is to air travel.

Re: News - Lexmark to jettison inkjet printer business

    Really?

High-end inkjet printers for photo prints are already a niche area, in much the same way that legacy floppy disk drives, dial-up modems and CRT monitors still perform legacy roles in niche areas. I'm simply looking forward to ropey inkjet printers not being mainstream anymore - moving with the times really.

That's no more selfish than wanting them to stick around for your own hobby

Good riddance! Had 2 lexmarks, 4 HPs a canon and an epson over the years and I can safely say the lexmarks were the worst. Carts were poor, printing awful and reliability non existent. Glad to see the back of them

You said printers in general, so you want everything to be digital? I would hate that.
