Hold on.. Rewind that back. How much!? And this is for the device that Nokia wants to conquer our hearts with? Now even if they were Apple this price would be still outrageous. Nokia will fail by the looks of it. Sad..

Same price as note 2 , £100 more than S3. Only good thing is it about the same price as the S3 LTE version. I think LTE spec phones are going have premium prices for a while.

German prices are higher than ours aren't they? However if it DOES get released at that price I'll be upgrading to the iPhone 5 32GB.

It's possible, Nokia Germany have always touted that figure, and most of the speculative leak based reports said we're looking at ~£475 sim free which is closer to other Euro countries.
People moan about the price of the Surface and Ipads but we pay crazy money for our smartphones

Thing is, it needs to be priced attractively JUST to get the devices out there and a foot in the door to open up possibilities and get the platform moving, and into the hands of more people.

I do hope its below the £500 as first thought. Will make it more attractive.

Re: News - Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 training videos leaked online

Whoever decided they should go with a reflective screen should be put to sleep mercifully as it only looks nice when turned off! Check the 3rd video @0:35! That's so much reflection they actually had to blur out whoever was holding the device up in post-processing. And I thought they'd know how annoying the reflections are, considering they're from Finland that is covered in snow half of a year. Adding a non-reflective 'protective' coating to it with aftermarket products would only make it look stupid with all those round edges not being covered (or really expensive with specially designed rounded covers). And those JBL speakers are simply appalling. They actually put any thought into its design? They want us to lay our phones down horizontally, facing the ceiling while charging AND playing music? Yeah, that's useful! If that's all Nokia can do, I'll pass.

The Nokia 920 - Nice phone, bad price! A few weeks ago, I saw the Lumia 800 going for £149 on asda direct for a few days.. Does Nokia really expect you to cough up nearly £400 more for the 920, with the knowledge its likely to fall in price like the 800.

Re: Spending more on Smartphones - Maybe, but without a big/general audience base, they'll have issues persuading developers to make the high quality apps they need to drive the ecosystem into 'snowball' mode.

So...Win8 has no discounts for early uptake (standalone versions at least). Surface RT came out at the higher end of guesstimates and more if you want the keybboard. Nokia chips in with a pair of phones that while nice, are priced above market expectations.

You'd think if they were serious about pushing the benefits of a common platform they'd try to be more competitive price-wise in at least one category as a 'gateway'. As with iOS devices, when you own one format, it makes a stronger case to go with compatible devices in other formats... As is, a phone + computer + tablet offering is clocking in at £200–300 more than I expected. With no initial discount, there is no incentive to go for the early uptake. I'm now even more likelyt to put Win7 ultimate on my new-build PC (I can get it for slightly less than the OEM version of Win8), stick with my current laptop and wait and see if/when prices for win8 phones and tablets come down to more mainstream levels.

Reflective screens are annoying, but aren't all smartphone screens reflective?

That's JBL for you, hopefully another manufacturer comes up with a more elegant design, also don't think the video is flattering. The charging pad you can get looks nice, but it's just that - a charging pad.

mm well I hope that price isn't right in the UK - I was expecting around the £450 mark (sim free), which is in the range of operator discounts on a decent plan...I'm looking to upgrade on EE next month to a 4G contract, and not really keen on HTC's offering - so fingers crossed the premium won't be /too/ bad when buying with a contract!

Re: News - Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 training videos leaked online

Why the ridiculously high price point? And why the months and months between announcing this phone and actually releasing it (which *still* hasn't happened yet).

I do have to question just how badly Nokia/Microsoft even want this to work. Neither seem to be particularly moving at the speed of light about it all.

If Apple announce a new iPhone, it's generally on sale a fortnight later. Announcing the product and getting people to commit to buying it is *part* of the process of making the sale. If you never secure the sale by releasing the actual product, you risk your customer looking at other products. I'm no expert in marketing, but this much is obvious to me as a consumer. Ultimately, I got bored of waiting for the 920 and bought an S3 instead.

Re: News - Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 training videos leaked online

Actually, the AMOLED screen looks fantastic even in sunlight, so the reflective screen implied in the video isn't really as bad as it seems. The hardware looked complete when I last saw it - so you could blame Microsoft for the delays in sorting out their software.

Nokia has been touting higher prices for their phones lately, and that's not much of a good thing for us SIM free buyers.

However, as these phones look like most of them will be sold through the network contract channels, the main thing that matters really is how much the consumer has to pay to enter the contract.
