Think the point is if you cant live without lugging around 16gb of music (which is alot of hours at a reasonable quality, i doubt many carry around the best headphones around and have super audio chips on their phones to make use of them) then you should use the Google Music which is out soon and will solve all your problems, put some of your top tracks on the device and shove the rest on the cloud which is up to 20k iirc, that way they are always accessible and can be pulled when you fancy listening to that artist etc, most contracts are over a GB of data now so it shouldnt really cost you anything .

Looks good but seems theres some early issues which hopefully will be solved when its actually out for the month, its surprising how bad it performs as you wouldnt expect that, it shows less performance than the dualcore variants of the snapdragon, the Nexus 4 clearly has issues. Its odd how the iPhones seem to be dominating the majority of anandtechs benchmarks, didnt know they were that good I thought they used fairly low end hardware, guess its purely OS level optimisations?

Most contracts are definitely not over a GB, most are under or at 1GB. Google music looks to be a very good service, but mobile data still isnt ready for it.

Thinking of getting the N4 8Gb for my mother. The ICS running HD2 I gave her is showing its age and this seems the most reasonable upgrade from it.

Nothing comes close at around the £200 mark. 8GB will be fine for her as the only thing she uses it for is Facebook and Whatsapp, no music or videos.

I shall call it a early Birthday/Christmas present

Yes, the original plan was to buy the 16GB version and give her my GNex but after some thought this seemed the better idea.

As is stands I am pretty happy at the current state of my phone. Custom rom is basically how I want it to be and got spare batteries that I still sometimes need.

If I were to change to the N4 good customs roms would take time for the community to release and the battery can't be changed. I also think that the stock build would be easier for my mother to work, she is one of those that gets confused by technology

I will wait for this time next year when Google announce Nexus 5 with LTE (HTC with 5" 1080p screen, I called it here)

If they can do a replacement for this next year at the same price point and a 12 month newer spec I'll bite. Will be 18months into my 2 years on my One X, I can see me wanting at upgrade by that point.

Re: News - Google Nexus 4 and Google Nexus 10 officially announced

I'm a tech enthusiast but I'll plonk for the 8GB I think. I always used to like more storage (and do on my PC) but I looked on my Nexus S 16GB recently and I have still have about 13GB free

All-in-one use is nice but still not that viable for me. I agree that cloud services like google music are inadequate because of connectivity issues (3g streaming when on london tube/motorway? Don't be stupid google!)
My Sansa Clip has tonnes of (removable) storage in a tiny package with superb audio quality and, importantly, much better battery than a smartphone. Plus I can use it independently if the phone is on satnav duties etc.

I don't play huge android games but even they don't take up much space. They're just for passing time whilst dropping a deuce or on the bus (or both hehe). Proper games are for consoles/pcs anyway.

And tv shows/films? Jesus I'd rather watch on a tablet or again at home if I really care to watch them.

Apart from music lovers I don't really see the need for huge storage. Maybe I'm missing something (anyone?) but the 8Gb is enough for me and I'll save £40 thank you very much. In fact 16Gb is only tempting for resale purposes as everyone seems to want moar storage. But I don't think I'll make that £40 back on the resale value anyway...

So I have got the Nexus 4 (it was this or Xperia T)after using S3 for past 6 months, then reverting to Nokia E51 for a few weeks before getting this. Given the rave reviews of 'stock Android' I thought let's see what the hype is about.

I thought I had backed up online using MyBackup but it appears not. It backed up to SD card. So how do I restore my files and data from SD card onto Nexus 4? Does it even support USB on the go? Something even a Nokia N8 can do. It appears not.

Deleting contacts is now a long process, around 5 steps. On S3 you select contact and hold down for 2 secs for context menu and delete. It is these little touches that make a device nice to use.
