The keyboard you mean? Yes I agree. Price wise looks good to me given what you get - the UK price of the RT was very close the US one too so it could work out well for those who want a tablet-cum-ultrabook.

I really want one of these, Ultrabook utility but is even more portable and comfortable for the sofa web browsing... $999 to GBP and + VAT is about £750, which I'd pay and given that it's Ultrabook level hardware seems a fair price.

But couldn't agree more on the cover being included... I really am put off by the total rip-off price for those covers, especially the type one which I'd want... I can buy the most splendiferous from Logitech for less...

    This: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/6541?crid=27 - £89.99 RRP

    This: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/produc...d-k810?crid=26 - £89.99 RRP

Even this for the usually unfrugal iPad crowd: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/produc...&wt.ac=ps|9859 is £89.99 RRP

See the theme here? But they want £109.99 for that basic non-wireless and no-frills type cover. Jokers.

I agree - but OTOH I would say that having a keyboard that's powered by the device is better, and also I would have to say it's pretty innovative in itself. Still should be there by default - for the pro.

Yes powered by the device is better and it's a step forward for tablets but really it's a much simpler product than any of those Logitech solutions (it lacks batteries, wireless, LEDs etc) for a much higher price and as such I think it's a total rip off.

£630 for 64GB is simply too much for something that is going to be of limited use due to the constrained storage.

You're going to be looking at 40GB+ without tweaking and weeding every last GB out of Windows.

Don't forget this is windows proper - and that means device support. It has USB3.0 too..
I'd prolly go for the larger one anyway depending on the price difference but otherwise just use external storage or a teeny tiny USB key.

Don't get me wrong, i get by on my 16GB Nexus, but the pricing of this leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

I've just read that Surface Pro will have about half the battery life of Surface RT; https://twitter.com/panos_panay/status/274234332804173824

yeah which makes sense given the spec and the size of the thing. It's a tradeoff.

4.5 hours at max use is OK with me - probably more like 6/7 for what i'd want it for. I've never needed my ipad to last 10 hours.

Question is, why exactly? It's as capable as an ultrabook (i.e. way beyond an ipad) and similar pricing to one and yet has the ability to be a tablet. If you mean the keyboard is extra then I get what you mean.

I was thinking all in, but even without the keyboard i can't help but escape the idea that's it's an expensive tablet - even with full Windows functionality.

Maybe, and naively, i was expecting MS to launch these (and RT) uber aggressively where pricing is concerned.

So basically £700 to £800 if you include the rather basic rubber keyboard. Meh!

Hopefully, with Haswell, the package will be more compelling. Also, both AMD and Intel are launching more powerful low cost chips(Jaguar and new generation Atom),meaning we should see better lower cost x86 tablets too. They should have SATA3.0 and USB3.0 in the SOC too.

Microsoft can't piss of their OEMs.

I hope that it isn't like Kodak not wanting to hurt their film sales by progressing their digital cameras....
