Crikey, its getting to the point where you could accidentally clobber yourself to death with a phone!

The only thing I really want to start increasing on phones is battery life.

Re: News - Samsung Galaxy Note III to have a 6.3-inch OLED display?

I think thats a bit silly - I love my Note 1 but its just on the edge of what fits comfortably in my pocket. I'd love to see something the same size as my note 1 with less space wasted on borders but a bigger phone is not a good idea.

Re: News - Samsung Galaxy Note III to have a 6.3-inch OLED display?

I love my Note 2 but the size is enough, any bigger and I would have not got it. Think Samsung maybe getting a little silly. maybe not produce a note 3 in 2013 and just keep updating the note 2 which is a powerful awesome product.

To put this into perspective: That's 0.7 inches smaller than the Nexus 7. I do think that's ridiculous for a PHONE but people seem to love the note so who knows.

I think the sweet spot is between 4.5 and 4.8 inches, depending on the size of the edges, any bigger is just silly and the iPhone is just too small

Re: News - Samsung Galaxy Note III to have a 6.3-inch OLED display?

Well that's sealed my next upgrade in stone; I want a Note II (have an S2 atm) but thought I'd wait for the Note III since I'm still a couple of months away from contract but that's just too big. It's no longer a phone so I'll settle for the Note II.

However! Knowing Samsung's scattergun approach to marketing they'll release something else the same size as the Note II with similar specs to the Note III.

Re: News - Samsung Galaxy Note III to have a 6.3-inch OLED display?

Despite not liking the ridiculous requirement of Android apps to have access to my location I find the battery life of smart phones to be a compromise I'm unwilling to make. I would like to have my phone last more than 7 days for normal usage; smartphones can't provide that so I use a tablet for the "smart stuff" and a dumb phone for communication.

I won't be getting a smartphone until they can last longer than 5 days and I'm sure many businessmen would love to have a phone with more than 7 hours average talk time as well so there should be a market for it. It is a good selling feature for a phone so I'm surprised it hasn't gotten better over the years, they seem to have forgotten about battery life in the pursuit of processing power.

Apple pretty much started this with small, thin and light - and I'm on about the battery here

I can understand having devices that perform better, are more ergonomic and have some interesting new features while only staying on for a few hours- but how has the other end of the spectrum disappeared? People often complain about iSheep glossing over the shortcomings of Apple products that tech enthusiasts love to point out but even tech guys ignore battery life when it comes to smart phones; phone is still in the name but it is one of those features that gets no attention.

I bought a phone in early 2011 and the one criteria I found hardest to meet was talk time and stand-by time, even budget phones that can hardly access the internet don't emphasise a long battery life, they still try to catch the attention of potential buyers with other features. I have thought about getting a smart phone since my purchase but have not been able to find something that can provide me with good enough battery life to justify a purchase and I find it weird.

I expect the market has room for a long battery life niche but I don't see phone makers catering for it

Somebody will get it sooner or later I'm sure.I'd go for a couple extra mm for another half day battery life!

Android apps don't require access to your location unless you grant it. Every time you install an app, a screen pops up telling you what information it requires. The majority of apps do not require location access and you're free to chose any alternatives you like.

That's screen size, but the Note will be a lot smaller than the Nexus 7, which has a big bezel.

Still, to me that's a tablet, but most people don't seem to care that phones are getting larger and larger, and I'm sure that soon it won't seem so out of place.

I remember the first so called mobile phones from the 80s and early 90s they were anything but mobile ... akin to carrying a brick
