How come we're getting so many of these tablets and notebooks with large PPI displays, and no desktop monitors? More investment, please.

Personally, if i was in the market for a laptop that was touchscreen.. I think id lean towards the acer aspire s7. This screen seems good tho..

Seems like you're paying for the screen mainly, it is pretty cool though but is there really much noticeable difference between 1080p and 2560x1700 on such a small screen.

Re: News - The £1,049 Pixel: Google’s new Chromebook is unveiled

Errrm OK, £1049... Is that a joke?

It's got no 3G/4G, a tiny 32GB SSD, standard WiFi, a very paltry 5 hours of battery life considering it's 1.5KG and has a 59WHr battery... great screen and construction but no way is it worth £1049, it's not even detachable to make a tablet! Jeez, not pricing this one to sell like the Nexus lineup then.

Just when you think you know Google they pull an Apple on you.

Probably not in resolution, but i'd kill for the 3:2 ratio.

Nice but far too expensive for a net surfing / media device

That's quite a premium you're paying for the pleasure of having a high res screen that's just going to get covered in greasy finger marks.

Re: News - The £1,049 Pixel: Google’s new Chromebook is unveiled

Absolutely insane pricing for a product with zero market! Sure the hardware looks nice but as its hamstrung by chromeOS...what's the point?

In the previous thread I was convinced by the fact you can put Linux on these which makes them useful, but that's at a £200-300 level, when you get to this sort of price you are up against MacBook Pro 13" retina which is in the same pricing ballpark (about £100 more) and has twice the memory, faster CPU (in MHz, it's still an i5) And a 128gb SSD. No touch screen but its a laptop, so do you need one? The Mbp retina is 227ppi so only 2 lower than this.

I know which one I (and most people buying a laptop for that sort of money) would buy. I'll be amazed if google sell even one of these to anyone who isn't a google fanboy.

Re: News - The £1,049 Pixel: Google’s new Chromebook is unveiled

What do readers think of the new Google Chromebook Pixel, its features and its price?
I like the look, feature-wise also good ... but over a thousand pounds for something that doesn't even have a proper operating system? Get out of here!

Do one of those with Linux, or even Windows ( ) and I might be interested, but ChromeOS? No sale.

For that kind of money I would buy a decent touchscreen ultrabook and a tablet - best of both worlds.

I dunno, looks about half an inch too thick for a four figure price tag.

Re: News - The £1,049 Pixel: Google’s new Chromebook is unveiled

Yeah, surprised by the price! Goes against the 'Chromebook for all' philosophy.

Reasonable specs, no software that demands it. All 'in the cloud' but wifi only in the UK. Portable but relatively short battery life for a modern 'ultrabook' class laptop.

I'm not really sure what they're doing apart from fighting a ppi war...

Great to see "someone else" putting high res screens on laptops.

    Pity its a chromebook though
    - how easy would it be to turn it into a proper laptop ?
