Nah but serious, I got a HTC HD7 when it was reletively knew out and I'll be switching to Android soon. The interface is truly beautiful but it lacks so much, especially in the app department. Maybe WP8 fixes many of my complaints, I'm not even going to bother finding out simply because I don't care, I've used Android 4.2 and like it more.
Another major version or two and I might give em a go. Microsoft haven't really been trying hard enough over recent years in the mobile market, they are still playing catch-up too much for my liking.

No surprise, I went from a HTC Desire HD to my Nokia Lumia 800 and wont be going back to either HTC or Android.
just 'upgraded' my work phone from desire hd to a nokia lumia 820.
as a geek, the lack of apps and overall functionality are disappointing. Yes, it looks nice, but i cant see how to connect to my home pc (short of the official app) to copy across some music and background pics.
no live tiles for on /off of wifi, gps and bluetooth
no option to create own ringtones
wish i could go back!
For a geek you do have more options with Android.
Bit of an observation though, for a geek I'm a bit perplexed you can't figure out how to do most of the things you highlighted!?

I wonder how much this has to do with the fact that MS now seem to sponsor hollyoaks and *every* time someone is using a phone in that show, its now a Windows Phone.
Crazy as it may seem I would bet that is part of it
My girlfriend loves her Windows Phone - its truely easy to use for a non techie, much more so than even the simplest Android device. Personally I will never go back to it (its actually a real pain in the backside for "power users") but for most people..they are a good buy imo.
erk double post.. ah well i'll leave this bit in the second one!
@iamlorro - you can get an app called "connectivity shortcuts" which will do what you want for Wifi/BT/GPS. I never looked at alternatives to Zune but I can see why you want to (the client is worse than iTunes..its almost as bad as the old sony MP3 minidisk Atrac software!). Not sure on ringtones as I only ever used a "phone" ringtone.
I had an iphone 4s, then went to a Galaxy S3 LTE, now I have a Lumia 920, probably one of the best phones I have had, I won't be changing from a Windows phone for a while, for me anyway I like it.
But yes, it could do with some more apps in store for sure.

Err you can do all of those, I found quite easily.
Not saying its a massive failure that you couldn't. But all can be done, I'd say as easily as any platform.
Sync'ing music or background pictures, just plug it in via USB to a PC, with Macs its a bit flakey mind.
Live tiles for Wifi and Bluetooth are done by "Connectivity Shortcuts" free app in the marketplace.
Create own ringtones, that should have been installed by Nokia on the 820. If it hasn't been due to operator or whatever, hit marketplace, nokia collection and its there.

Both me and my brother now use Windows phones, and neither of us will be changing any time soon.
Zune is awesome, will be using it for as long as possible, only downside is not being able to play flacs.
I just got my new Lumia 820 at the weekend and so far I've been extremey impressed. Moved from an iPhone 4 so plenty to get used to, but the interface is just a million times better in my opinion.
I had read plenty of reviews so I was well prepared for lack of apps and it really doesn't bother me (for now). Only thing I'm still getting to grips with is how best to manage podcasts - but in the meantime I can use the Windows Phone Desktop app to just piggy back from my iTunes library.
Windows Phone deserves to be bigger than it currently is - fingers crossed it keep up this growth rate!

Perhaps "power user" is the wrong word - maybe "geek"?
I just found it a really odd mix. It's not as simple and clean as say iOS, but its not as configurable/customisable as Android, it sits somewhere in between the two. Once you "jailbreak/root/whatever you want to call it" your phone it becomes easier, but as a stock phone..I just didn't get on with it. I must admit though that my experience was somewhat tainted by a few very basic things that were missing such as the ability to skip-to-point in music/podcasts, the ability to subscribe to podcasts, live tiles being "live", and the fact that Bing was so tightly integrated.
Don't really have time to explain better than that now but I could do later if you were interested - i've expressed most of my dissassifaction with the platform in previous threads though.
