I`d love to know how hard their profits have been hit by this.

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

It's interesting how a search for "Interflora" doesn't yield their website in search results, but it does appear in the sponsored ads at the top. Google appears to be saying "we don't approve of your aggressive SEO, but we're happy to take your ad money". Of course, ads and results are two separate things, so maybe there'll eventually be repercussions for Interflora in ads... wait and see.

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

Google has to take a hard line against SEO, afterall many people suggest SEO is better value than adwords, because some people are tuned to ignore the adwords.

If google don't stomp people paying money to get a higher rating, how will they make money?

No I completely agree in that sense - paid-for SEO, beyond having well marked up content etc, is a joke.

Fair enough, Google are basically saying "If you try to manipulate our search engine then we'll take you off it, play by the rules of inclusion or don't be included".

Trust in search results is pretty important.

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

Just done a search on the terms 'Interflora UK'.

The petals came up third entry down - linked back to this article!

    The irony!

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

Good thing they've drawn enough attention to get news articles instead of search results then

And yeah - Hexus almost single-handedly undoes google's smack down

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

That's strange - I've just Googled 'send flowers' and 'Interflora'and both preent Interflora as the first result.
Either this story is poorly researched or Google's punishment doesn't last long.
    What are other people's experience?

And no it's not a cached result - as my Mum and wife will attest - no flowers ordered online ever. :-/

Not sure what you used but using both the things you said 'worked' I didn't get any search results for interflora.

Just did a search for "flower delivery glasgow" and "interflora" comes up in the related searches. Oh, and I also get Interflora at the the top of the ad placement.

If I just search for "flower delivery" I get a local company (because I've allowed Google to use my location) with "Interflora Florist" in the title as the second result.

I'm going to agree with kingpotnoodle - if Interflora have been found to have tried to "game" the system, then they need to be punished. Otherwise, what's to stop others doing even more flagrant abuse?

Re: News - Interflora UK’s petals plucked by Google

Must be me then as I tried all of that I still don't get any reference to Interflora at all apart from in related searches but even clicking in there doesn't show it.

Maybe its because I am using GOOGLE chrome? lol
