If new SSD's are forgiving longevity for price how long might this new wave of SSD's last in terms of years? I know its all dependent on use but maybe on average? I'd rather pay more first time round for the sake of not having to replace a hard drive every couple of years. I don't understand why companies are looking to less and less longevity in different memory layouts as the only way to reduce price.
at least this is the better way of making a cheaper drive - fast contrller and cheap NAND - the crucial V4 was an aweful mess (good nand and a cheap controller)
but would it work out cheaper in the long term is my point? I read an article that in a worse case scenario a TLC drive with about 10gb write load a day would probably last about 7 years which is fine. But if the companies keep going smaller could it get worse?
I agree though SSD's at current conventional hard drive prices is very appealing
