Can't say as I'm surprised. I've always had severe doubts about B&N's commitment to eBooks after being a victim of their takeover of eReader/Fictionwise many years ago - suddenly finding that titles I'd bought were "not available outside of the US" and the range that was offered to the "international" market was awful.
From what I understand, although the Nook's a pretty good eReader device, the Kindle has better support so it's the clear market leader - and one that's going to be difficult to challenge. And yes, I've got a Kindle myself.

Also no ability to buy back issues of magazines
And the fact that subscriptions of magazines disappear after 10 months unless archived is just plain stupid
