News - Zuta Labs has made a tiny Roomba-like portable printer

Due to its unconstrained nature the print size is only limited by the size of your sheet of paper.

Looks cute! Don't know whether I'd call it a "pocket printer" though.... be crazy sized trousers to slip one of those things in!

It's going to be tough syncing up the motion across a whole page so you don't get skewed output, a tiny skew can have a large overall effect.

But for OTG printing of drafts, etc, it could be pretty neat. Also, I guess it supports any sized paper you can lay flat.

Keep it out of drafts, away from vibration, in a nice stable and quiet room and it should work... I'm sure that will be nice and easy "on the move".

No way are they ready for production based on that prototype.
No way will a printer based on that prototype be able to print at >1PPM
No way will a printer like this be able to stay calibrated across and down an A4 sheet.

Maybe a nice novelty, but never for a useful page of text. Not these guys, not with this printer.
Agreed. Nice idea, for sure, but when I saw their prototype I thought it must be their *first* prototype. But no, it was their latest. That thing would move faster if it was pulled by a team of ants.

    It's do-able.

But it will be slow. Very slow. I'm reminded of whenever I catch up with a mate of mine, who is a computer vision researcher. I only realise how more out of touch and out of date I am with the technology. So long as the paper has a grain which can be tracked, I can see this working fairly well.

However, I don't beleieve it will be the guys behind this. They aren't talking about any of the techniques that would be needed.

But in the same way we saw some guys who just didn't know anything about light, make an LED bulb, which is apparently going to ship, because they raised enough cash, someone who could implement it, was found.

it will need a flat surface with it,carrying a table in the trunk or just a bigger faster printer
