I think shutting down the entertainment studio is a big mistake, look at how well Marvel Studio is doing with it's IP. Now with the IP and money behind MS we might have seen something interesting, now all we can hope for is other companies trashing their IP.

well technically Microsoft isn't actually slashing 18000 staff member, MS are axing 5500 of 'their' staff, the rest is just not retaining 12500 staff acquired with the Nokia acquisition. To be fair most of us probably expected MS to get rid of most of the Nokia staff and the Android Phone...

Does getting rid of the entertainment studio make much difference to me... not really, it's not stopping MS from making series/films based off it's IP, it just means it would out source.

Re: News - Microsoft set to slash 18,000 jobs, its largest ever staff cut

A lot of the Nokia lay offs are in manufacturing, so who's going to manufacture the Lumia handsets? Perhaps a new company that happens to use former Nokia factories and employs a lot of former Nokia/Microsoft employees?

That's just speculation, but probably not far from reality.
