This is less about the game, and more about the massive merchandise machine behind it. With Lego Minecraft sets due soon, and tons of already available merch selling by the ton to kids, as well as the streamers playing it being some of the biggest, MS is buying into that.

I wonder if the very open and generous let's play agreement will remain ?

I'm hoping that they don't mess with FTB or charge for this stuff.

Minecraft expansion packs you have to pay for and no indie developed mods. Woo :/

Software companies that Microsoft purchase rarely get better.

Odd value of $2 billion, when the last years profits were $100million.

Minecraft popularity will probably peak this year and slowly die off over the next few years.

I don't see how this is a sound investment. The only thing Microsoft can be thinking is to bleed the crap out of this quickly - which means over priced download content and high purchase prices.

Can be sure Microsoft wouldn't allow $5 upgrades from one platform to the next.

Tbh, most kids these days either have a console, I actually don't know that many with PCs. Most family members of mines have consoles too.

Can see M$ ruining Minecraft, would love to know what the plan is once takeover is complete...

Goodbye Minecraft. Everything that M$ buys is doomed.

Looks as if Mojang will be having either a new Director or new owners, my money is the owner Notch dumping the Director who would be the only person making this deal - this person has had no positive impact on the Softwares development, the founder Notch himself has that accolade. The $2 billion company valuation is based on 5 years of past profits, putting that into perspective, that not only makes Notch rich but the most influential player in the Indie independent computer developer industry owned by a single person and Mojang will still be making profits for decades.

It's confirmed (at $2.5bn), but Notch will be leaving Mojang too.

Well I was wrong, Notch has lost minecraft, gained $2.5 billion and the Swedish Pirate party has gained more funding than all of Europes politcal parties put together.
