It may be not a large UKP loss, but it's still a loss.

I personally bought this on kickstarter (or just afterwards) and at that time I didn't know there would be a subscription model also on launch.[

Even if it's not going to be a large advantage, and I do hope all players will be able to have fun, I am getting the feeling now it's going to be quite an eletist game, that's not a good thing for me.

I ] just hope I'll get my 50 or so hours gameplay from it. And now, my 6970 doesn't cut it, though it did before. "So"

There will be no subscription to play the game, once you have purchased a game package, even the cheapest, that is all you need to pay for the full game including a ship, the single player campaign, and access to the persistent universe. Every thing else can be earned in game.

The only subscription I'm aware of is if you would like access to further information, and to further support development, that is generally not available to standard players, more status reports and some other perks etc.

Well, this has pretty much been the last straw for me, it sets their stall out as a Pay2Win model.....I refuse to pay for the game x amount of times over to be on a level playing field.

It's currently 10% cheaper to pay in Euro than GBP.

Thanks Cheesemp - the delay and some kind of penalty for repeat death was what I wanted to see. I don't mind people paying to cut corners but I was worried the perma-insurance would short circuit that and unbalance the game play.

So for what they've raised so far which is what, 15 times more than the Elite Dangerous team... there's not really that much more game. It remains to be seen whether the final game will have as much or more longevity than Elite...

So a bit like Freelancer but with joystick support?
This will probably suit, if Elite: Dangerous doesn't do it for you.

Which is why I got bored and went to Elite. I also prefer the flight mechanics in ED. SC is seeming like a massively overcomplicated, laggy, fun-leeching hassle right now... rendered useless by playing turrets in space - Just speed up, then hit the Space-Brake to turn on a dime and open fire.

I think Elite will improve dramatically once they start getting the really ambitious parts implemented and creating more things to do in-game. SC will likely alienate a fair few players with that 100GB+ download and more when the final SysReqs are settled and everyone has to have four SLI'd Titan Xs just to cope with the loading screen...
That's assuming they stop spending so much money on buying themselves silly toys... I mean, 'bespoke merchandise'. Seriously, how many ball caps and tshirts and hoodies and plaques and stuff are these dev guys buying?
