Still have a tricked out A4000 with 060 / picasso vga / ethernet and 486 bridgeboard .... should go and fire it up to play superstardust or dune2

Amiga took me from learning to program, to writing demos and having utilities on aminet - I was so proud to receive the free aminet CD through the post

My first ever computer was a commodore plus 4, followed buy a 128 and finally an A500+ good times and some cracking games. Many fond memories of being frustrated with lemmings, Bart vs the space mutants and Dizzy.

Re: The Commodore Amiga 1000 was launched 30 years ago

I had my towered up Amiga 1200 right up until April 2007, where sold it as I needed to downsize, after moving house. Really wish I hadn't. No machine has ever got me as creative, allowing me to stick my fingers in many different pies, or had that same sense of fun when doing so.

Before that we had 2 Amiga 500s. Can't remember why but I guess the first one packed in so we got a replacement. We also had 2 A1200s, at one point. I also had an A1500, but it went mostly unused. Mainly as I got the Micronik Zorro busboard for the 1200, so my cards went in that instead.

And of course, CU Amiga and Amiga Format were great in the mid 90s to their dying days. Gave away so much excellent software, on the front of the mags, and had great tutorials. Also helped to keep a community feel alive.

Been toying with the idea of getting an A3000/4000 but I get the feeling the nostalgia is best left as that.

This will be about the easiest fix. Just find something with the same voltage and same or greater amps, cut the leads, switch the plugs on the end of the leads and add a dab of solder. Job done.

If you can't find the same voltage, go higher and work out the needed resistor.

Never had an Amiga, and starting to think I should go look on ebay for one.

Perhaps I should fire up an Atari ST in the meantime.

Edit to add: Is there a good model to go for if I want to have a play, or should I just go for whatever A1200/A500 I find going at a good price?

A resistor won't provide any regulation, and before it blows the Amiga would be a fire hazard if not rated and heatsinked properly. Just don't go there!

    Adapters seem to be available:
