I've used AVG Free for over ten years now.
The latest version is starting to annoy me with the amount of pop-ups, but I haven't got around to researching the alternatives yet.

Avira for me - seems kindest on resources
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Common sense with MBAM as backup and Windows bvuilt in protection. Never needed anything else and have also not have a virus since the 486 days
Avast for some years then just Security Essentials for years but now it's been left to rot I've tried Avast again. The new bloat is horrible though. It slyly auto-installed an unwanted shopping toolbar on my Edge browser and has the nerve to have a feature for detecting and removing unwanted browser toolbars. Oh the irony.....
God how I wish I'd gotten the free lifetime subscription to MBAM while it lasted!
Might check out BitDefender after the positive comments on this thread...
Windows defender and up to date browser/OS. Use to use AVG/Avast (free versions) but got fed up with the issues. Not had an issue but I am careful what I download/visit...
Was using AVG, but got hacked off by them selling user info etc so now trying Comodo, seems ok so far.
I use Windows defender and restricted permissions for the kids accounts, including firefox download blocker.
Trend micro maximum security.
Avast Internet Security (paid), Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes (Free)
Eset
Common sense doesn't really have anything to do with it, unless you don't browse the internet ever. I can tell you as a manager of windows defender corporate its not very good at all.
Good choice, I will be moving onto this after my AVG Internet Security runs out.
Nod32 for the parents. MBAM for me.
Kaspersky 2012.
AVG Free. I have this one mainly because it keeps the popups to a minimal and necessary. I also like AVAST or Mcaffe (The "pro" version we have this at work).
Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 cause it's free from the bank I use
