I HATE offers that are "Brand new customers only" (I'm halfway through 4th year of Prime).

Re: Amazon Prime pre-Black Friday price cut to £59 in the UK

Be interesting to see if "brand new customers" means folks who don't have a current Prime subscription or one's who've never had one. I had a subscription, but ~£80 for what I could use it for was poor value for money. £20 less is an easier "sell".

The callout box on the offer page, as screen-captured in the article, simply says new customers, not 'brand new'.

Can't you just sign up for a new amazon account with a Gmail address and the . Or + trick?
To be fair I think you can technically do that for unlimited free trials but that's naughty

It's not about cutting costs for members, though. It's about getting new members, and hopefully, selling most stuff on Black Friday and over the Christmas sales. That is, it's a marketing discount, pure and simple. Why would they give it to members? They've already got you. It's like getting a "free" phone when you renew a mobile contract.

Personally, I'm no more interested at £59 than I was at £79. At the old £39, it was borderline. And yeah, you get more "benefits". Which is presumably why lots of people pay it. And fine if they're benefits you want.

Amazon Prime offers an increasing amount of benefits beyond its original free one-day delivery remit. Subscribers can enjoy a varied selection of films and TV series, access to a large music streaming library, Kindle book lending library, unlimited photo storage and early access to lightning deals, which sometimes have limited quantities on offer. Prime subscribers in some cities, such as London and Birmingham also have access to a range of good available within the hour.
I have zero interest in their films or TV series, and less still in streamed music. Little or no interest in Kindle lending library and neither Amazon nor any other company is getting my photos stored on their machine unless they're paying me, and I mean a commercial rate per photo. And I don't live in a city with their one hour service.

What Prime meant to me was the delivery option, pure and simple. And at £39, given my ordering levels, it was borderline economic, since most of the time, standard delivery was fine. Since they jacked the price up hugely and bunged in "benefits" I have no interest in, it's a no-brainer to dump Prime for me. In fact, my ordering from Amazon at all went the same way. I closed my account about then, though not for that reason, and haven't been back since.

I've watched one or two videos on prime, but largely ignore it as netflix(US) is far better.

Prime is worth it just for the deliveries on a Saturday & Sunday - which just about every other supplier charges a huge premium per order for.

Re: Amazon Prime pre-Black Friday price cut to £59 in the UK

Wont be enticing me to sign up. Non of the advertised benefits are beneficial to me, apart from perhaps the kindle book service, but even at £59 it isn't cost effective. If I need something quickly, I can either use Amazon locker or just pay delivery, most of my purchases aren't so urgent they have to be there next day.

You've also got 14 days to cancel so you could do that then sign up.

New Customers only... What about the customers who have been with amazon for years?

They already have you! As Saracen said http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-news/3...ml#post3562985 this is Amazon offering discounts to get new customers, not rewarding existing ones.

If you have had prime and it is now lapsed like me you get the £59 offer.
