    Perhaps Windows keeps a local audit trail, and they can install a tool to roll it back.

    IIRC, Windows does make a back up of the registry databases, so that could be accessed to restore previous settings. And has done since at least Win2K, and again IIRC, from Windows95 (along with an IE browsing record)
