wonder how much this will cost, might be tempted if it's competitive and the battery is actually good!

That's quite a nice spec and a nice, understated style... Interesting. Wonder what the price is likely to be?

Surely it's pointless to get a GTX 9xx series laptop now considering the recent announcement of the vastly more power efficient GTX 10xx series?

What recent announcement? So far only the high end chip for desktop form factors has been announced, and that even less suitable than the last generation given it's higher heat output. The mid-range laptop ones could easily be months away, even a year or more if nVidia decide to rebrand.

It's nice to see gigabyte taking power efficiency seriously on this machine, it was always frustrating that so few higher power laptops put the effort into running well on battery life.

Because no GTX 10xxM series parts have been announced.

There's nothing to suggest they have taken power efficiency seriously on this machine at all. If their other machines with comparable specs are anything to go by, they've done the exact opposite, with ignoring efficiency completely and brute-forcing a bigger battery into it.

A shame so few laptop manufacturers give you the option of having a high end CPU and no dGPU.

Ugh this would be compelling if it had a TB3 port or two. I'll wait to see what the price will be since my current interest is the Razer Blade. If this offers more battery life with the same specs and a cheaper price then I'll reconsider it.

Re: Gigabyte Aero 14 gaming laptop boasts "full day" battery

That... is a laptop I would actually but if I were interested in using one. A very nice understated design, good selection of ports, decent hardware and a good battery. I do agree about the sentiment above that its a little weird timing with Pascal round the corner, but as others have said it's only desktop so far, though I can't imagine M gpus are too far round the corner. We also don't know how long Gigabyte have been working on this particular design, so perhaps it's too late to change even if they know more than we do.

Regardless, its nice to see a nice looking laptop with good specs, I hope we see more laptops like this in future as opposed to the typical "gamer" look.

Why shove a 1440P screen into it with a somewhat weak gpu? They should of put in a 1080p screen and called it a day.

    All day battery? Yeah, right.

Let's see what the reviews and run-down tests say.

I'm willing to bet that "all day" means 8 hours light office use.

Not yet, but it's highly likely that there will be GTX 10xx for laptops considering (a) that is the normal procedure with previous series of GPUs and (b) the 10 series is all about power efficiency, which makes them perfect for laptops.

Same could be said about GTX 11XXM parts or GTX 2XXXM parts, what's your point?
