Re: Asus starts Computex with a Zenvolution

In the market for a new phone at the moment and the 79% screen to body ratio of the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe sounded really interesting but too good to be true so I went onto the trusty gsmarena and it seems it's not 79%.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone...570kl-8129.php
    Dimensions: 156.4 x 77.4 x 7.5 mm = 74.0%.

Looks like my new phone will most likely be the One Plus 3 (152.6 x 74.6 x 7.3 mm) although the OP3 looks a bit bland and a blatant copy of the HTC One series. Currently using a Xiaomi Note which is 155.1 x 77.6 x 7 mm in dimensions (5.7") so I wouldn't want to go any smaller than 5.5". It's already the upper limit of what I can hold as my hands aren't very big and the Asus Zenfone 3 is pretty much the same size. I'm eager to keep the same size screen whilst shaving off some millimetres but it seems this year all of the phones have those horrible black bezels around the displays. The S7 Edge has some really nice dimensions at 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm for a 5.5" (= but I don't fancy paying £500+ outright or £35+ per month for it as my uses don't warrant it.

I did order a LeTV Le1 Pro (X800) for £130 which is a 5.5" and claims to be 147.9 x 73.5 x 9.5 mm which is not bad at all for the specs which is offering a 2K screen, Snapdragon 810, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage but I've heard the battery life is rather crap and that there may be WiFi issues... I thought it was worth a try for £130 though. I believe a 5.5" screen is around 121.5 x 68.5 mm which means around 26.5 mm bezels for top and bottom and 2.5mm side bezels which means here a screen ratio of 76.6%. Looking at videos I'm not sure this is true but we shall see when I get the phone if it arrives.

My ideal phone would be a 5.7" phone in a 150 x 75 x 7-8mm chassis with a Snapdragon 650, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage with a decent battery for £200 but seems that does not exist. I don't need the power of a Snapdragon 820 nor do I need 6GB RAM or 128GB storage. Would be quite nice to have aptX and NFC too and OIS. Should be doable as 5.7" screens are around 126 x 71 mm so we're talking around 10mm top bezel for the front camera, speaker and sensors, then 14mm or so for the bottom bezel with some capacitive touch buttons or a fingerprint sensor. The side bezels would then be 2mm each.

The Ultra is the one listed as having a 79% screen ratio not the Deluxe. However 79% is hardly too good to be true given my well-over-a-year-old Huawei Mate 7 has a 77.5% screen ratio..

Funnily enough the Ultra doesn't have 79% screen ratio either: http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone...680kl-8130.php

Easier for large screen phones to have a high screen ratio though.

Re: Asus starts Computex with a Zenvolution

Received the LeTV Le1 Pro yesterday (surprised it came in a week!) and it looks like they were right about the dimensions. Can't believe just shaving several mm off makes it so much easier to hold! If only it was thinner though, can really notice the difference between a 7mm and 9.5mm phone although it sits in both my hand and pocket more easily.

Haven't really played around enough with the phone yet but will certainly do so.
