Re: Asus 4K gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate in the works

Given the QHD version was almost 700 quid, I just can't see the appeal of a monitor that costs this much. Professional graphics/photography etc doesn't need high refresh rates and would probably want something bigger, so this is aimed squarely at a very small sector of gamers with more money than sense. Good luck to them anyway.

Don't be so salty just because you can't afford it. I doubt I'll be able to afford it, but that doesn't stop me from being excited about it and wanting to see it in action.

Why? Lack of Gsync might be a deal breaker, but Freesync wouldn't have cost you anything, and you still have a 144Hz IPS monitor which is nice in its own right.

With Freesync you need a good framerate *range* to enable the low framerate compensation, so having a decently high framerate actually helps the slow frames too.

I run a 144Hz 1440p monitor with a single R9 380, now that is only 3.7 megapixels rather than the 8.3MP of 4K, but I find the setup a pleasure to use so a card twice as fast as my 380 (not hard to find) should give a similar feel.

Besides, a decent monitor may last you a decade. Graphics cards should be faster by then.
