    The new Nintendo console has a Tegra chip so I expect it makes more sense for Nvidia to concentrate on that.

    Not one speculation that this might be because they're meant to be supplying the main chipset for the Nintendo NX?

    You know your device has a fairly limited market, with what could be considered a directly competing product using your own product about to be announced by a company who's whole brand and existence is based on gaming; it would probably be commercial suicide to launch a new version, risking your own money and splitting the market, when you can let someone else buy your chipsets instead.

    The fact that the K1 tablet is sold out everywhere and you can't get one for love nor money implies that either there is demand for this sort of tablet, owing to the dearth of decent small tablets available, or they just didn't make enough in the first place.

    Re: Nvidia SHIELD Tablet refresh apparently cancelled

    Maybe if you put out something a bit different it would sell. I for one would like a 13-17in with far better gpu that is out there now. My dad would like a 20+. We both had our fill of 10in which sucks for gaming IMHO. It's just too small to read stuff in the games and for both of us not enjoyable. For him (and old man...LOL) print is too small to enjoy the web even. I hope they at least sell their chips to someone else (HP, toshiba have done larger ones before etc) AND allows tegrazone/streaming from gpu. The had better at least re-rev the console soon and up the watts (heck grow the dang box) and I'll be interested. The current one is too weak IMHO since they went so thing etc. Build one with a heatsink/fan and 100w with 14/10nm (dual chips? Bring it!) and I'm in. Just emulate ps4/xbox1 size. If it can't do 1080p with mid-max detail I'll pass again. I'm not looking for another roku, I want to game on it with android as all the engines up their gaming ability (ue4, unity 5.5 etc etc). If Nintendo is why they cancelled the tablet, put out a rev2 of the console.

    They would attract more customers if they started making (or funding) their own android games just like sony/msft/nintendo. They have a great device, but need more games designed for their console. The ports they've done of old games show even the current one has juice (just not enough for me...ROFL). Exclusives for a few years (1-3mil for 10 a year or something) and worst case you put them out for other devices/pc's if it all fails in a few years. Use the proceeds from the games to keep upgrading the unit every 2yrs. They built the handheld for <10mil (easier when you own the chips), and at this point with shrinks etc, you should be able to easily plop the new chips in every 2yrs without much effort other than a screen upgrade, or for the consoles simply bigger drives+newer memory and new socs. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to make the games run on each version since they own the gpu and can simply ID each soc and turn off features accordingly to keep up fps on older models. GRID adds a ton of content already, so it seems foolish to toss this idea before at least plopping in new versions even in the same boxes. They have 10nm stuff hitting at xmas from pretty much everyone, so surely they can put out a massive improvement Q1 or something. Galaxy S8 is 10nm rumored to be Feb2017. With apple going tsmc, surely samsung is willing to deal on 10nm to take up some of that slack. Qcom 830 coming early 2017 also.

    Cmon NV, shield console rev2 with 10nm and a big enough box so we can mod it with whatever HD we want later.
    https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-Streaming-Player-Android-Gaming/dp/B00U33Q940
    1350 4.5 star ratings at amazon (not including another bunch for the upgraded model). I haven't seen too many haters of this box from owners. My dad once one in place of a roku for most streaming other than crap you can't get on shield tv after seeing it, and knowing the features (kodi, plex, and the basic stuff of course), but I told him to wait for gen2. We cut the cord years ago, so this would make a nice addition under the tv if they put out a rev2. We would both be buyers of a new box. It's either that or we both build htpc's. We're sick of buying blurays to play more formats, and roku seriously lacks in this area already.

    One last point: If they want to grow this platform they'd best let Nintendo stream from grid/gpu and use tegrazone games or something. The 3DS has sold more consoles than xbox1/ps4 combined (60mil+, and the DS sold 150mil+). That is potentially a huge add to the people using grid/gpu streaming/tegrazone. If nintendo sells that many of the next one, that will draw devs, especially if they put out their own box that sells a few more million on top with far more power (say 2 chips, like xbox1/ps4). I'd have no problem paying 350 for a top end android box that rivals the others in perf. They already have dozens of games I'd like to play on the tv on android never mind what will come with the latest engines over the next few years and billions of capable gpus on android once 10nm hits. It's apparently around 120mil to design a soc at 10nm, and NV has to do it anyway for each gen of car tech. Not sure why you wouldn't rev the shield tv each time to sell more socs, even if it's a token chip replacement with bigger drives/mem. Probably just wishful thinking...LOL. I have zero interest in xbox1/ps4 and $60 games. I keep my PC up to date for hardcore stuff and hope for a gen2 shield tv for android for much cheaper games for tv stuff (or stream from my next gpu).

    the people who buy DS and other consoles are the ordinary humans offcoz I'm no ordinary that's why my system has a card with GDDR5 memory and openCL performance out of the ordinary.

    Well the Nintendo NX seems to be a portable console with a docking station(might mean the station has additional processing power??). Hopefully it will make for a decent handhold,as the previous Tegra was one of the faster IGPs at the time.

    There've been two Shield tablets. The "Shield Tablet" you reviewed, and then the "Shield Tablet K1" which was a tweak on the original (with less 'bursting into flames' being the main selling point), but get a black back, no stylus slot.. oh I'm being a pedant here.
    It's a really great tablet, ignoring even the quite reasonable price of it.

    Damn that's going to make getting hold of K1 difficult, had been planning to pick one up. Already have a Shield TV, hope that means support for that isn't going to wither & die.

    Its the way things are going now at a faster pace - increased disposability of computer stuff,as any of these companies want repeat sales. Long lifespans make the accountants sad pandas. Best to pay the least you can get away with nowadays IMHO although YMMV. Don't expect longterm support - thing of it as a subscription of sorts.

    Erm, you did realise that:
    (a) it's the Shield Tablet that they're talking about;
    (b) The Shield Tablet was deliberately chosen to be 8" to make it more portable;
    (c) Larger screen = not portable and faster gpu = very short battery life and probably more weight (heatsink/fan)
    (d) You do know that the Shield Tablet will hook up quite nicely to a TV - so I can have portability AND a large screen when I'm not out and about?

    I've got the K1 tablet too, and apart from being a bit fragile (I managed to crack the edge of the casing) and having an official case that even Samsung would baulk at charging the amount being asked for, it's been pretty good. Put it this way, it games nicely, does all the Androidy things well/quickly and has pretty decent battery life.

    So yes NVidia, I'm pretty annoyed that I'm not getting a "2016" model offered. And if the NX is the reason then no Nintendo, I have zero interest in whatever half-baked console design (presumably complete with daft proprietary/expensive features and software) is intended to replace it.

    Yes, I know, I'm grumpy...

    Re: Nvidia SHIELD Tablet refresh apparently cancelled

    Of course I realize we're talking about a tablet. I said I wanted 13-17in, and no it's not to take around much even in my case. The 10in my dad has never has left the house...LOL. Both of us want larger (he has a stand so he sits in a chair using it all day) for gaming/reading the web. Personally I need training vids etc sitting on the couch/bed etc. Yes you can hook it to a tv (we have the hdmi cable for his) but again, the point was also MORE power. As you get older, especially after 8hrs at work in a chair (IT), you can't sit for another ton of hours daily without your feet blowing up...ROFL. The tablet being 8in is why I'm not even pondering anything from anyone in this size or 10in. Did you read my post? You quote me talking tablet, so I'm confused by your questions. It says we had our fill of 10in and is useless for web/gaming. You can put it output to tv, but not much point for me for that until it's X2 (or comparable from someone else, and I really want NV gpu/streaming pc gpu/grid). I won't buy another tablet until I see 10nm in it and larger than 10in. I can't even see what's going on in IT training vids on this size. My dad's usage is basically youtube and netflix if mom's asleep and wants no bright tv on in the room, since not much else is usable on it. Even 13in is still highly portable IMHO.

    10nm gpu should be more than capable of running fine and as stated we would use it in house and his is plugged in while in the stand all day, the same could be said for anything output to TV (no battery issue plugged into power for TV). Browsing on the go doesn't use gpu much, you can get 10hrs easily today and you could still game for hours. Not all games max the gpu all day either (do any? yet?). I think tablet sales are down because most realize how useless they are for many things. IF you buy a gaming tablet for GAMING, what is the point if you can't read the print in most games? Portable goes out the window if you need a TV to read anything right? 1920x1200 is ridiculous in 8in BTW and most games as noted are unreadable. Maybe new games will fix this as they are easier to change res etc, but what we tried sucked on our 10 (same res, google 10in). You really think after seeing pascal (and it's watts), a better gpu on X2 10nm would not be better than a K1? Okay...It think they could do it with better battery life AND far more gpu at 10nm vs. 20nm. This is a no brainer comment.

    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/tablets/1404138/nvidia-shield-tablet-k1-review-now-with-android-marshmallow
    "With near-identical hardware, it was no surprise that the K1 turned in almost the exact same battery life score as the original Shield Tablet. At 12 hours 39 minutes, it’s among the better 8in tablets, but still falls slightly behind Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 and Lenovo Yoga Tab 3, which both managed over 14 hours. Even so, you’ll get a full day of use from the K1, and should manage over five hours when playing graphically intensive games."

    No doubt a 10nm would say the same. I doubt I'd ever go over ~5hrs gaming or browsing. How many hours do you need? In rare cases where you have a kid in the back seat on a long trip you just buy a USB battery pack or pull over and eat every few hours and charge it in the car. At home, it's not meant to replace my PC gaming, just add to my gaming time, training vids AWAY from a PC chair etc and of course output to TV when desired for whatever. Like you, I want MORE POWER (or what is the point in a new model?). We just have different size requirements Which again, is why I said I hope they sell it to others if they don't want to do it themselves. AS long as I get streaming from gpu/grid/tegrazone I don't care if it's an NV tablet, HP, Toshiba etc. Just make it bigger Obviously a 17+ would probably be in a stand most of the time, but I think I could live with an X2 13in if forced and would take it out more than a 10 I can't use much.

    I'm assuming X2 is pascal (P1? LOL), but whatever they name it this is required. No interest in a maxwell now. I hope for nintendo's sake they announce a pascal here, not maxwell based. If you're Q1 2017, it needs to be pascal 10nm, which would clearly have so much more perf and even better watts vs. maxwell which was already pretty awesome. It better have more juice while docked too I'd hope now matter how that is accomplished (another soc in the dock?...LOL). Don't aim low like current xbox1/ps4 did. Clearly this isn't aimed at those, just saying, AIM HIGH period no matter the device especially if you're trying to aim at docking it too as a console. A small box with a soc and some extra GDDR5 or something would be great for a dock. It should work without the dock to TV of course too for the poor Add your dock to up your power/fun at some point. What is the point in a dock if you get no more power/perf? You can already hook to tv with hdmi and power with wall for never-ending fun today so docking should add something IMHO.
