£500 gets me a decent GPU and one of Dell's 12-bit HDR monitors, so...

The fastest android phone available at that price, probably keep eye open for price drop deal on a S7 or something.

Re: QOTW: What tech would you buy with £500 to spend?

Booze and hookers! Not necessarily in that order.

Ohhh... what *tech* would I spend it on. That's a bit more difficult. There's so much I could spend money on in that department.

If I really had to choose it'd probably be a Gigabyte GA-X170-EXTREME ECC motherboard, an Intel Xeon E3-1245 v5 processor and 32 GB ECC DDR4 memory (Crucial or Kingston, probably). The reason is that my system has been acting up a bit of late and I suspect it's the motherboard. Problem is, I can't get an equivalent any more, so it has to be matching new motherboard, processor and memory.

If not that, I'd probably be looking at an ASUS PG279Q monitor.

500 GBP would get me close to either scenario.

I would upgrade my ram to 16Gb and get a 1070 Graphics card, or maybe a 6Gb 1060 and a larger screen

Re: QOTW: What tech would you buy with £500 to spend?

I'm torn between some Ethernet-enabled speakers that I can drive from iTunes (do they actually exist?!?), lots of SSD storage, or a new CPU & motherboard, although I'm not sure £500 would be enough for the latter as what ever I got would need to offer me at least 25% more performance than an i7-3770k @4.2GHz.

2x Toshiba X300 8TB HDDs to replace my 2x Toshiba 3TB + 2x WD Green 3TB drives (in my network enclosure). (Very hard to get hold of these drives at present though. Main retailers like Scan don't stock them. At present, I can only find them on Misco for £268.80 each.)

Overkill? In what way? The Xeon? It's pretty much the same as a regular Core i7, but necessary for ECC memory, which I simply won't do without.

As for the monitor, yeah, I've read about all the issues. Hopefully, ASUS has been able to fix (most of) them on later revisions. Not sure if they have, though. Truth be told, I'd rather have the EIZO FORIS F2735, but it lacks G-Sync support and I (currently) have a Geforce graphics card. If only they'd build monitors which support both G-Sync and FreeSync simultaneously (nVidia will never adopt FreeSync). Coincidentally, the ASUS MG279Q, the FreeSync alternative to the PG279Q, seems to be a much better monitor without the issues plagueing the G-Sync model.
