As the article states "pricing and availability information hasn't been released", would you care to enlighten us as to how overpriced this is?

Quite agree - and also own the original U7 (non Echelon).
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
Still using an Asus Xonar D1. Works like a charm and was worth the money I paid back then.
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
Product spec sounds good, but I'm not sure about a box like this that suits being central on your desk, but has so many wires coming out the back.
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
It's tat with cheap off the shelf components, you can get similar or better sound from amp/dacs at half the price.

How can you say that without knowing the price? Hexus say it hasn't been released yet.
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
For the digital side, using cheap off-the-shelf components isn't a problem - design matters more. For the analogue side, component quality is important, but I don't think there have been any detailed tear-downs of this product yet to be able to judge.
As for getting similar/better sound at half the price (I'm assuming the Mk II is to retail at £75-90 like the Mk I) this may well be possible, but such a claim ought to be backed up with some evidence!

It is definitely a rear edge of desk job, especially with decent phono cables attached.

yeah, it's a pain in the arse to place it properly. mine's on top of my AV receiver, which is on top of my tower.
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
with the quality of on-board sound available on every new motherboard these days, I'm struggling to see a point to this that doesn't involve getting extra ports on a laptop
Re: Asus announces the Xonar U7 MKII USB soundcard
Im stick rocking my D2X. Been thinking about moving to something external just to free up some space near my GPU for cooling. They do also get rather hot themselves!
Asus make pretty good sound cards in fairness to them. Sure, they probably arent going to satisfy the most elite of the leet, but for anyone who wants a little bit more than an onboard has to offer (very few people of an already small demographic) they are worth considering.

Any chance this will have ZLM?
Recently started using a DX2 myself but hating the monitoring delay, to the point where I'm looking at going back to a USB headset.
