And shipments of Linux based devices beat both Apple and Microsoft devices combined, although I'm not sure Android is considered a Linux device by most people.

I bought Windows laptop instead of MacBook Pro, you get i7 cpu + gtx 1070 with 4k screen for less than base MacBook Pro.

Now, they are beating MS on smartphone side but on PC side it is different.

They shound compare smartphones vs smartphones not like this.

This looks like Apple ordered a analyse in order to influence its stock price.

I'd love to have the time to do an analysis of Gartner predictions vs eventual reality. From the few reports I remember seeing I'm not going to consider this report worthy of even reading...

Re: Windows device shipments to be outpaced by Apple this year?

I think Gartner divided the 2018 Apple figures by their IQ, when they should have divided by their shoe size (clearly a much higher figure) which would have put Windows in the lead.

Is this really worth reporting on? It tells me that Microsoft is doing really badly in phones, which we all know, but it tries to dress it up in a really weird way. Perhaps next they will compare Scalextric car sales with Jaguar.

I echo above. I can't see how this is even newsworthy as Linux shipments (including Android) far outnumber both combined

Re: Windows device shipments to be outpaced by Apple this year?

iOS should not be lumped in with a full fat Desktop/Laptop OS. Windows 2 in 1s are not tablets, they are generally full Windows Operating Systems and are laptops, single form tablets that use Windows OS could have an argument that they shouldn't be included either true.

But an iPad is not comparable to OS X or Windows OS. iOS also includes iPhones so again, these numbers are a complete load of trollop.

Microsoft still has the desktop locked. It's just that they put a stop to phones until they figure out the software for the Surface Phone.

Re: Windows device shipments to be outpaced by Apple this year?

I agree that android and Linux deserves a mention here, but I also think everyone is getting a bit carried away with the desktop/mobile argument.
At the end of the day the devices being compared are the ones people use to accomplish daily tasks that would otherwise be very difficult.
The popularity and increased power of "mobile devices" has blurred this line enormously.
How many people also have iPads and iPhones that you use for work emails, videos, web browsing and in the case of the iPad, the occasional bit of documentation.
Sure, windows is still the productivity powerhouse, but let's not pretend were living in a black and white industry anymore.
