Windows 10 Cloud ISO leaks, lack of Win32 app support confirmed

But there is evidence that this OS might be upgradable to other Windows 10 SKUs.

From what i read the win32 restriction even applies to built in Windows programs like regedit.exe

seems more than coincidental that it leaked a few days after news of it's existance

I really don't get why people complain about this. It's just a cut-down OS for those users for whom a cut-down system is perfectly adequate. It is not intended to replace or compete with the full W10 but, to compete with Google Chrome OS.

Agreed, this is non-news to me, I won't be buying these systems.

This would in theory (price/performance allowing)be perfect for someone like my mum who basically uses her laptop for facebook, email, both via the web browser and little word processing from time to time. So basically all she needs is word and a browser... and as long as you can add in adblocking to the browser which is on it then it won't be an issue.

Just because it's of no interest to you doesn't mean it's non-news.

You may have to include addblocking for the OS as well, Microsoft have already shown their willingness to use Windows 10 to push notifications promoting products and services and i would guess this new version will take that to a whole new level.

Re: Windows 10 Cloud ISO leaks, lack of Win32 app support confirmed

Well to be honest, I quite liked Windows RT - it was fast, efficient and did all I wanted/needed out of my original Surface RT. "Windows 10 Cloud" appears to be just a windows 10 RT, and I imagine it will work in a very similar way.

The restriction of not running x86/x64 apps initially does feel really limiting, but thats only because we're geeks/techies who's first instinct with a new machine is to go ahead and install X Y Z app/game like we always do. Most people are not like that, and will typically use their devices for internet access and "time waster" games...both things that will work fine on this sort of OS. Microsoft may even re-release Office RT for it (rebranded, of course) so you don't need to use office webapps, and that could be the real "killer app" it would need to win out over chromebooks, which have to rely on the (still frankly awful in comparison) Google Docs web apps.

It's a smart move by Microsoft imo; RT may not have taken off with the general public, but if hardware running this is priced cheap enough, Windows 10 cloud definitely could.

Well, for a product that manages to get both "Win10" and "Cloud" in the title, my view is not going to surprise any regulars.

That, however, I do agree with.

For some, it'll probably appeal. For me, not even if hell freezes over and demons go ice-skating.

None of you are the target market. It's clearly more of a ChromeOS alternative for preinstalled dirt-cheap systems.

(speaking for myself 100%, I have no inside info)

Something occurred to me last night - I wonder if the Wine team could make a UWP version and get it in Windows Store? So you could emulate Win32 on ... Windows.

Yep I would think it's possible - it was done for windows RT (sort of anyway, not sure it was the WINE team) so I expect you could do the same here, with a bit of hacking to get around the security principles.
