Cortana scanning my emails? Oh, hell no.
Well, so I would hope, but it raises two questionsQuote:
You need to give your consent for the extra Cortana integration.
- what about the next version? And the next? Still require explicit permission?
- without such permission, does it refrain from scanning emails, or scan them but just not give reminders?
Frankly, this is EXACTLY the kind of capability I don't want built-in, because I don't trust MS not to abuse it.
It's getting to the stage where we'll need application-level encryption built so all stored data is protected not only from other applications, but also from the OS.
Cortana can also be reminded to go where the sun doesn't shine.
So glad I uninstalled all the Microsoft madness in W10 thanks to Google.
Oh, I have, more or less. But I still have some legacy Win7, and WinXP, machines for both hardware and software compatibility. Win10, and issues of this type, is why I switched.
And I think I detected a collective groan from Hexus old-timers, and someone muttered "Of God, someone set him off again". Not that this particular hobby horse is a fav of mine, you understand, but some here seem to think I go on about it a bit. :D ;)
Cortana already scans emails.
I get reminders that a package is due from amazon or ebay, only way it knows that is that it read the order email.
Google do it to apparently, a colleague says his android phone does something similar.
siri (on the iOS 10.3 beta test at least) does this as amazon parcel delivery dates are appearing on my calendar and also a couple meeting i had set up via email.
personally it doesn't bother me that much at present, but things could change according to how it all pans out
That Cortana image and the accompanying text reminds me of that irritating paper clip in the early versions of MS Office.
However Cortana will not be reminding me about 'promises' I may or may not have made, 'cos I won't be using Win 10.
I can see you it might be useful in a business environment at it saves entering a date like that in a calendar app (although that is easier in Outlook with exchange server (iirc. It's been a long time since I endured that).
I've not noticed that happening automatically, although I have only just installed the latest versions of the desktop OS with Siri installed. It doesn't seem to happen on the mobile versions, at least not without manual intervention. Must investigate further!
I would be more interested if cortana could NOT do anything at all
Wait , what. All those software scan our emails? !
Even if you have nothing to hide it is inacceptable.
Jeez, do we have to write our own email servers and software that goes with?
Its just wrong.
I dont' know anyone with windows 10 on a desktop that uses Cortana, maybe it's diferent with a tablet and phone because it's so dificult to type anything but a desktop ... why the hell they don't include an uninstall option is beyond me?
Microsoft is getting things very VERY wrong for its pc users and seems to be infactuated with breaking into the phone /tablet market.
Do you or does your e mail service employ spam filters? If so, then your e mails are being scanned by software. Is that unacceptable?
Unless you encrypt your e mail at source, its highly likely it will be scanned at some point in its journey across the internet,
