LG G6 video teaser shows value of its 18:9 FullVision display

The 'double square' display is great for multitasking in / with various apps.

Good to see LG struggle to simplify their ratios!
In all seriousness though, is the 16:9 so ubiquitous that we have to compare all others against it. For example we had 16:10 not 18:9. Just call them what they are, 8:5 and 2:1 respectively!

I have felt the same way for a long time but, bigger numbers are more impressive, at least if you are in marketing...

If bigger numbers are better then I'm going for 2000:1000.

Whilst going wider makes sense for desktops, I'm not sure I really need that level of windowed multi-tasking capability in my pocket.

Re: LG G6 video teaser shows value of its 18:9 FullVision display

If they can keep with the width below 71mm I'm definitely interested. A 5.7" screen with a 18:9 aspect ratio is 64.7mm wide, so there is hope, as long as the bezels don't go much above 3mm on the sides.

I really like the look of the device from what I've seen so far, and I'm just not interested in a huge glass backed Samsung S8. I think I'll either opt for this or last year's S7.

For reference my 4.95" / 16:9 Nexus 5 is 69.4mm wide over the entire body, with LH/RH bezels @ 3-4mm wide.

Well 2880:1440 would be even bigger numbers

But agreed, my tablet should be capable of this windowed multi tasking but I haven't even looked up how you do it. Not felt any need.

Re: LG G6 video teaser shows value of its 18:9 FullVision display

The only thing stopping me from wanting this at the moment is that the BBC Sport app insists on having a massive yellow header on videos, even in full screen mode, and while I don't use it that much, it is handy to catch up on things every now and then.

On this, in landscape mode that border looks like it will take up 1/3 of the screen, and the narrowness means videos will be tiny in portrait mode too.

If the BBC sort that out (I have reported it) I'll be getting this phone, as the Galaxy 8 looks like several backwards steps in terms of ergonomics and usability.

I've had this on Galaxy S6 for ages because it's a feature of Samsung's Android, and I've never found a reason to use it either. The only time I see it now is when I open it by accident.
