Re: QOTW: Have you pre-ordered AMD Ryzen?

As long as AMD will only provide Windows 10 drivers for Ryzen I'm afraid I am no longer interested in it from a purchasing point of view.

Now, I'm only interested on a purely technical basis and I hope AMD are on to a winner this time. Both AMD and consumers really need it to be, despite the latter probably not realizing it.

    Emm,so is Intel too??

AMD said they validated the platform under Windows 7/.

But this thread isn't about Intel?

And Intel hasn't really delivered anything substantially new for ages, so why anticipate anything from them?

The Asus Maximus Hero motherboard is the same price as the Intel Version. Overall cost wise its only what £25 give or take. I like the fact these are very good & better at Multi threaded applications. Maybe I can win a AMD Ryzen from the Hexus competitions.
If you need the extra cores great but if you don't why would you want Ryzen?

But the problem is that you are kind of making it sound like it was an AMD only issue - Intel is doing the same with their CURRENT CPUs too,so ultimately you should be having a go at MS who probably are pushing for it to make more people upgrade.

AMD said they tested it under Windows 7 but won't be official supporting which is pretty much the same you are getting with Intel too.

If that is so, then it's because I, naively perhaps, hold AMD to a higher standard. And yeah, I know MS is pushing for this. I just can't for the life of me figure out why both Intel and AMD are playing along.

well it's quiet simple .. they cant do there thing without m$ and if m$ take a side the other side will lose .. amd can not afford that atm ...

I beg to differ. Microsoft needs AMD and Intel much more than they need Microsoft. Which is why it boggles the mind that they're going along with Microsoft's fatwa on anything not Windows 10.

Re: QOTW: Have you pre-ordered AMD Ryzen?

Not pre-ordered. Slowly caving in to purchase.

Seen what I can sell my i5/mobo/RAM for and seems I will make back my initial spend. So when reviews/R5 is released I think I will have jumped the blue ship after many years on it. Hoping AMD have really done it this time, really enjoyed my S939 and earlier AMD rigs. I can never recall having had more than 1 CPU on Intel mobo, but can on AMD .

Re: QOTW: Have you pre-ordered AMD Ryzen?

    Nope.

Don't get me wrong: it feels like I've been waiting for Ryzen forever and have been excitedly grasping at every bit of news that's leaked and/or trickled out about it.

Despite all that, the two factors stopping me spending are:
    (1) Caution. (Pre-orders are inherently a bad idea in lieu of full reviews.)
    (2) Finances.

I'm still hoping I'll be able to make the plunge by summer time, particularly alongside Vega 11 variants (if rumours prove to be true about it being a 1070 competitor), but sadly I have to look at the situation pragmatically, particularly where I also wish to upgrade my 4x3TB drives to 2x8TB drives.

Edit: Just to clarify the age of my current system, I'm still on an AMD FX-8320 @ 3.6GHz, 16GiB DDR3-1600 and a Radeon HD 6950 2GiB. It's been doing okay for handbrake at X264 but X265 kills it and I'm now getting to the point where 2015/2016 games often kill it (i.e., Quantum Break) or push it hard enough that I have to turn off some high-level details (i.e., Dragon Age: Inquisition). To say I've been holding out for a new rig is an understatement!

Re: QOTW: Have you pre-ordered AMD Ryzen?

Pre-ordering is more problematic than waiting. Unless you're desperate (ie really old system or faulty hardware), then there's really no reason to rush so that if there is a fault, you can make an informed decision or wait it out. If I were to upgrade, ryzen would seem like a likely choice. I'm not sure if that's necessary atm though.

Re: QOTW: Have you pre-ordered AMD Ryzen?

I'm super excited for Ryzen, but hell no I'm not gonna pre-order. As impressive as the benchmarks look so far, I won't be giving them any money until those CPUs are in the hands of independent reviewers. But if those reviews are released before the actual release and they're good, I may pre-order. And if it's bad, I'll probably just go ahead and buy my system with a 7700k.

No idea how anyone can drop £300+ on something we still don't know a lot about, particularly in gaming. It's no doubt going to be very strong for most production loads that can really use all cores to their max, but gaming still depends greatly on single core strength.

The thing is if Intel went along with it and is the bigger company,AMD can't really strong arm MS as a result, especially if MS decides to not realise optimisation patches for Ryzen under Windows 10 or decides to slow the release rate down.

Think it could be a fun project going back to my roots, but am in no rush am still quite satisfied with my x99 system, maybe when seeing some serious testing and more I would start an additional project.

I don't believe in pre-order as it is.

Pre-Order? Are you guys high? LOL. I'll need to read 5-10 reviews first
