Modifying the Swiftech MCP350 Pump for Increased Flow

This pump comes under many guises, one being the new DD-12V, but for this article it's the Swiftech MCP350. Lee Garbutt has been looking at the design of the pump and decided that a bit of drilling is in order to get higher flowrates while maintaining the head it is capable of.
As you can see, the modified MCP350 has a much higher flow rate than the original pump. The modified pump produced 180.1 GPH flow rate (at 0.81 PSI head) while the original MCP350 only generated 110.7 GPH flow (at 0.36 PSI head). Extrapolating the modified pump curve down to 0.36 PSI head, it looks like the modified MCP350 should produce ~190 GPH flow. That translates to over a 70% improvement in potential flow!
