Hopefully this will bring the price of 10TB drives down! or not as that case may be! lol
Ultrastar you say? Did they remember to cover the thermal exhaust port?
I have an instant secure erase feature for my drives....WD's new HGST branded drive is more targeted towards enterprise. Thus it boasts of features such as Instant Secure Erase,

Is there a legitimate scenario that might require an instant secure erase feature?! It conjures up images of the tax man/police knocking on the door but I suppose it's designed to save a bit of time when selling or throwing out equipment at the end of it's useful life?
Wake me when they are priced for us little guys. Gen 4 and still aimed at enterprise. Surely they can price something within a decent home users pocket book?? I got two 5TB HGST NAS drives for $99 at xmas. How about a 10TB Helioseal drive for $300 (not this $500+ crap). I'll give an extra $100 for the HE 10TB but my nas drives are pretty reliable already. I could be pushed a bit over $300 but not much. I'd just keep buying fry's nas specials every xmas...LOL. At least competition is slowly bringing these down.
Out of curiosity, what's the benefit of this over 2 6TB drives for enterprise? I'd be surprised if space was that much of a concern for server racks - is it a failure thing, because of the exponential increase in P(any one drive failing)?

Reminds me when I said I don't need more than a 4TB hard drive a few years. Now looking up 6TB+ hard drives to add to my overall storage.

"highest reliability rating available of all HDDs on the market today".
So will this claim be backed up with a longer warranty?
And will the collapsing side of toshiba affect WD sufficiently to make that warranty worth anything?
I imagine the cost of having 2 of these at home will be astronomical.....
