Qualcomm demonstrates dynamic charging of EVs on the go

Previously Qualcomm Halo was used only to wirelessly charge parked cars.

This is bull, seen innovation that charge a moving EV with magnetic slings in the road. U do not have to use any external power and it charges more the faster you go AND it is surly 100 times cheaper to implement and maintain in the long run.

But this it not interesting to a company like Qualcomm, they think only with greed, they want something expensive they can install and cost loads to maintain so they can make gazillion bucks in the future.

That is physically impossible. There is no way to add charge to the batteries of an EV using the method you describe without slowing it down, or violating conservation of energy. Look up 'lenz's law'

Isn't wireless energy transfer extremely inefficient? Think there's a reason that Tesla was considered a nutcase in his later years.

Tesla planned long range high current wireless transfer, basically ionising the atmosphere. This is short range inductive charging which is a proven technology the same as used to charge your phone wireless!

My phone is charged via USB like 99% of the phones on the market. Wireless phone charging is highly inefficient and a marketing fad. Unlike in transformers there is no barrier that focuses the magnetic field.

Short range inductive charging does NOT ionise the atmosphere. It is basically two halves of a transformer which is a predominantly magnetic effect at low frequencies.

I remember seeing something about charging buses at bus stops wirelessly, but it required something to drop down each time I think to basically touch the pad to help improve the efficiency.

Really? I know loads of people charge wirelessly and whilst not as fast as USB it can be pretty quick if you have the right phone and tech

It's about as inefficient as USB charging is again, in other words, USB charging has 20-30% losses, wireless charging loses another 20-30%.

But that's at a range of less than 5mm. These car chargers work on a completely different scale.

Oh and in 2017 more than 80% of phones will ship with wireless charging as standard. All the big selling phones now include it and it is only not being used in select models or models low down in the product ranges...

The phones might support it, but almost all of them come with a USB charger.

And your point is? Just because you don't like it or see it as worthwhile doesn't mean it isn't.
The option is there if you so wish to use it, as is USB. Inefficiency is a trade-off against ease of use. Many things are inefficient, but doesn't stop them being useful or the best we can currently use.

My 7 year old HP touchpad has inductively coupled charging.

Re: Qualcomm demonstrates dynamic charging of EVs on the go

Inductive wireless charging is taking off. I think its malaysia that already has deployed 300+ public wireless ev chargers and it's being used in many other places too. It's crazy that people here are angry with the idea of convenience.
    Facts don't exist, only interpretations.

More angry with the idea of unnecessary waste. Plugging a USB cable in is only less convenient than setting a phone down on an inductive charging pad by a minuscule degree, especially if you have a phone dock.
