Holy crap, a >5GHz clock on 16 cores is insane!
Re: AMD Threadripper 1950X clocked to 5.2GHz on LN2
this makes it the fastest processor on earth?

Hate claims about overclocks on LN2, it's pointless in a way, only heads up is with enough cold air or water pumps going mental you can get higher than stock clock speed.
Yes it overclocks but by how much for the average user or even semi-normal enthusiast ... who knows?.
As far as LN2 shows me . who cares?, you cant run it 24/7 with out staying up all night and topping the levels up and I doubt it would even work for half that time.
Re: AMD Threadripper 1950X clocked to 5.2GHz on LN2
It sounds very impressive, but my 8/16 5960X @ 4.25 Ghz (normal, not "suicide" speed run) gives a score of half that chip, around 1700cb. Put that into perspective - the chips a year or so old, been overclocked rock solid and with half the cores, gets half the score of a chip nearing the silicon afterlife, cooled on liquid Nitrogen.
Quick - yes. Impressive? Not really. I'm sure if you could overclock the top end Xeon chips they'll do those sorts of speeds. This is however, great news for consumers as the price of these Ryzen chips is kicking the ludicrous prices which intel have been charging into touch...
Re: AMD Threadripper 1950X clocked to 5.2GHz on LN2
I think the biggest point of this is that the cb score outperforms 2nd best score by a good third... Unlike intel incremental updates which gave at best 10% increase, if that...

A 5960X isn't really much worse than Intel's current offerings. It's been a slow few years, AMDs results are right where they should be.
Re: AMD Threadripper 1950X clocked to 5.2GHz on LN2
Well, at least we know that AMD have quite the headroom for architecture improvements on the zen cores.

Yep my CB score on Noxavyl's old 1700x is 1712 @ 3.9

The point you're missing is that if you doubled the number of cores in your chip it wouldn't necessarily run at the same clocks in the same scenario. So essentially your have less cores hitting the same per core score, that doesn't change the fact that they have twice your total score and the world record by the sounds of it.
Re: AMD Threadripper 1950X clocked to 5.2GHz on LN2
Just so people know, this is literally the higher cinebench score of all time by a single CPU. if you check HWBOT, all the scores above it are 2-4 CPUS.

And when you compare it to the competition we start to under stand a few new things like Intel's skylake-x cpus are clocking to 6GHz on LN2 but still losing by about 50% to TR.
