Why was it sooo bulky in the first place?

My understanding is that it was to make sure the circuitry and the antenna was enough to offer a reliable connection in various operating conditions.

As someone who bought 'nano' WiFi dongles and a game controller with a 'nano' reciever (think those little 5mm black nubs that stick out of your USB port), I can see why. I had to buy USB extension cables to bring the receivers forward in order to stop the connection dropping mid game.

The receiver seems like a nice improvement at a decent price just as long as the reduced size doesn't compromise the connection reliability with the controller.

I bought an XBox controller with Bluetooth to use directly without a dongle. Would this be better? Might it work with "compatible" XBox controllers?

Be snapping up the new adapter and perhaps the Grey/Green Xbox Controller.

my existing adaptor has fallen to bits and is rather unreliable atm so i've swapped to using a cable at the moment..good news they are launching a new one I'll have to pick one up Or one of the old ones if they drop in price anywhere.

Re: Microsoft outs new, improved Xbox Wireless Adapter for Win 10

$70? LOL. Maybe $50 but even that is pushing it. This is akin to the $3 mice they make and sell for $75 over the years (I'm looking at you MSFT). Just one more reason I'll buy an ARM console or build an HTPC before ever buying into MSFT/Sony again (never bought nintendo). Did I mention the $60 games? BAh, I'll take 10 games from googleplay/tegrazone games for $20 (or less, only buy the sales...LOL), or just go to GOG if it's on PC already anyway. If it's not available either of these ways, I can wait, there is far more for me to play than needing to buy $60 (mostly) bugfests. Due to all the dlc, bugs etc, I pretty much buy games a year or more later anyway (gold, platinum editions etc) when EVERYTHING that should have been in the original game is FINALLY included and if we're lucky, all patched up too. I digress...

I would say no for some reason not all games poll bluetooth for xbox controllers (I've had issues in a couple of titles), I will pick up a wireless dongle myself soon.
