How fast can Intel make new CPUs? Depends if AMD is hammering it...
Look poor value next to Threadripper
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Can we have 2 huge asterisks?
The first is that the turboboost 3.0 to get those numbers is a single core and that 4+ cores being boosted is within a gnats bottom of the base clock.
The second is that these monolithically sized and priced CPUs cost "up to 200%" more than the previous generations with only an "up to 30%" performance increase, the colossal changes in performance metrics reflective of pricing is crazy.
I don't know why but all this "up to" poodoo is really getting on my nerves, especially with the massive disparity of their lineup and all of a sudden most ate chill with Intel gouging both the Xeon market and the Enthusiast market.
Micro rant over xD

There's no reason for the motherboards to cost as much as they do. With each new 'feature' the oems find an excuse to raise the price! Zero competition for Intel has also meant stupid prices. Come on... Stop buying intel, at least for one computer. Hurt them. Same goes for motherboards as there's hopefully someone, somewhere, selling something second hand. Until consumers stop throwing away their cash these companies will milk us until we're dead and buried.

still not seeing a reason to upgrade my 4790K... I've been saying that for too long haven't I?
I went for one of the xtreme sereies processor back in the day (SB-E 3930k) and later on I swapped it for a 4930k. It was a great option with amazing performance and the price was not too crazy. Sure I'm missing on the latest Motherboard technologies but apart from that, what is the incentive to upgrade?
I'm not going to spend £3k to £4k (new MB, memory, CPU...) for some "up to" performance that I'm pretty sure I will never notice.
I really hope that AMD sales hit Intel really hard, so they come to their senses.
AMD: We'll give you 16 cores/32 threads, with a base clock of 3.4GHz and 64 PCIe lanes, all for $999
Intel: Well, that's nothing, we'll give you 16 Cores/32 Threads with a base clock of 2.8GHz and 44 PCIe lanes, for just $1699!
AMD: ..... you're not even trying now, are you?
Intel are giving away > 20% in base clock speed at both 12C/24T and 16C/32T, and I'm not sure they've got > 20% more IPC to make up for that. At 12 core they at least have a reasonable difference in TDP (40W), but at 16C they're < 10% better off (165W v 180W). And of course we've got the rumours and leaks of 140W TR chips which look like they'll clock ~ 10% faster than the Intel chips ...

It merely seem like re-branded chips if you ask me, but again they got to do something, maybe they did not want to stay innovative and thought too much about the shareholders rather than making a product people would be at a reasonable price without being charged and arm and a leg + delivering a proper boost, Nvidia seem to use same tactic as Intel is or was..
Am not a fan of either brand, but where I get the most bang for th bucks then I can live with X item being 5-10% slower or whichever... if you get a 110 fps or 103 fps.. you wont really notice the difference anyway.
