    George Bush Runs The Internet

It would seem, somewhat disturbingly, that the US Department of Commerce isn't going to relinquish control of the Internet's root DNS servers in 2006 to ICANN as planned. Instead, it feels they should be maintained in such a way that prevents any action which could result in an adverse impact on the operation of the Internet. That means the DoS stays in control.

The issue stretches further than reliably maintaining root servers, though, as The Register reports:
...what is most disturbing about Gallagher's presentation, is how it endlessly refers to the president. The first slide has a picture of George Bush. The second begins "Thanks to the president's policies, America's economy is strong". The next slide is "The president's broadband vision". The next slide leads with a quote from Bush and two pictures of him. And on and on it goes. There is barely a single slide that doesn't quote from the president.

Clearly the Internet has entered the Bush administration's vision and the resulting DoC statement - which boldly tells the rest of the world that the US will continue to run the Internet and everyone will just have to lump it - is very in keeping with how the US government is currently run.
We bow before the superiority of Emperor Bush and his almighty Internet.

Oh, he invented it, but George Bush now owns and runs it.

I doubt bush could use a calculator without his assistant hitting the buttons for him. His only computer use is probably a vtech speak and spell.

I've heard that the entire US Administration have a special brand of laptop. Apparently it's most popular colour is red, has only two buttons, and requires a shake upside-down to reboot.

There was an interview with him in the Times yesterday, where he comes across as being a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for. Changed my impression of him slightly, I must admit.

I still think he's a tyrant, but he's a bit less thick with it, in my eyes

He was being operated by remote control . Actually, did you see any of the shots of him during the election TV debates? They showed a bulge under the shoulder of his jacket which looked suspiciously like a radio prompter...

He can, as long as the string is nice and big and fluffy so he doesn't hurt himself

Anyone can use them. The only reason the US government doesn't tax/restrict those is becasue they can't. They just sit there and broadcast a signal. The GPS reciver jsut has to find them.
