well, i got my io shield in the end, but not from asus. a new guy called darren asked me to fill in this form etc and pay £5 for the stuff, but he made it confusing by saying email the form back. I asked him don't I print this and send it with the money and it took him a further 3 weeks to reply. I just payed £4 extra and got it off ebay. Guess what, the IO Shield came before ASUS's reply came. I guess asus products are good if the retailer deals with them. Just not us.

You appear to have done better than me Moogle
Since speaking to 'Rickey', my case doesn't seem to have progressed at all.
Yet another two months down, and not one backplate to show for it.
Still, it's only been 10 months so far since I first raised the issue, so I suppose I'm being unreasonably impatient...:S

That is very strange, I lost my I/O for a Gigabyte board.
I contacted Gigabyte UK and spoke to a sales guy, in less than 2 weeks I received my I/O plate.
I only had to pay for the postage.

What I like about Gigabyte UK is that you can actually phone them and speak to them.

    Hey moogle,

That's interesting, because Gigabyte use Award BIOS, which one do you prefer and why?
I am indeed interested in your answer.

Re: Has Asus support dwindled to nothing?

I purchased an ASUS eee 1000H netbook while on holiday in Singapore in Dec. 2008. I live in New Zealand. In July 2009 the plastic plug fixture for the USB port came out when I unplugged a USB connected mouse. The ASUS service centre in Auckland refuses to repair the port under warranty (1 year). The centre in Singapore refuses to accept the netbook for repair if I send it to them. Avoid this company.

This is my first experience with a third rate company such as ASUS, and last. Stick with Lenovo, HP, or HP/Compaq. For 2nd tier companies go with Acer (have an Acer notebook, never had a problem).

P.S. The ASUS netbook keyboard has a horrible design for the right hand special keys.

My experience so far is that all companies are much of a muchness - my experience of Sony and Dell is similar
