7950gtx is faster that the 8700 in direct x 9 games. And the 8700m is too underpowered to perform on direct x 10.

360 is SM3 codebaseish, by time SM3 is phased out, it will be time to upgrade anyway, it will be struggling to run the games well - and the 8700 will be screaming in pain at 10fps in DX10.

7950 GTX anyday. 8700 can't do DX10 properly. Heck, even the 8800 GTS struggles at times.

Anything less than an 8800 at the moment is a bit of a waste of money if you want DX10 performance. the late 79xx and x19xx cards are the best bang for buck at the moment. The X1950pro's are very good value for money/

there is no mobile version of the 8800. It has been announced that there will be one but it wont be till early next year id say.

I appreciate that, I was mostly just making a point about the requisite power you need to take advantage of DX10. 79xx's are probably still the best mobile GPU's going.

DX 10 is still very new at the moment and besides all games for the foreseeable future will support DX9 anyway.

I would go for the 7950 for its sheer power by the time DX10 is fully established you’ll probably find the rest of your laptop will be to slow to run anything anyway.

Life is like Computing, just when you get it all working properly, Bits need replacing
