Xbox 360 controller incompatible with soup

Whatever you do, do not drop your 360 controller into a bowl of creamy mushroom soup!

Whilst attempting to pick up the controller and balancing a tray with a bowl of soup on my lap, it fell straight in - button side first.

It worked for about 10 minutes after that and then died. Not sure whether to throw this away or try and blag a new one, but I've bought a Joytech Neo Se controller which feels strange after using wireless for so long.

You shouldn't have tried using it straight afterwards Best bet in that situation is to unplug it/remove batteries so that there's no chance of it shorting and blowing a component, wipe off as much as poss with a damp cloth and then put somewhere warm to thoroughly dry out. Its the water shorting something that you need to look out for.
If its already dead it could be shorted (so very dead) or poss soup on some contacts? Can't hurt to try washing it in the sink and leave it to dry on a radiator or in the sun to see if that solves it. Can't make it any more dead.......

(no names mentions otherwise he would kill me) ^ ^ split a whole pint of beer in his G15 Keyboard... i remember he telling me something about a shower and leaving it for 2 weeks.. funnily enough worked fine after 2 weeks.. now thats a keyboard and a half if you ask me

(just to note the keyboard was not "on" so to say from when he split it to leaving it 2 weeks)

Typical Microsoft! How dare they release a controller that's not tested to work after a close encounter with soup.

I wiped it quite thoroughly and left it on the side, should have taken the batteries out though!

Cheers I'll try your tip, Camal.

I wonder if I can counteract the effects with another flavoured soup.

Oxtail soup could be the antidote.

If you drop the Nintendo Wii controller in soup, it uses all the nutrients in the soup to duplicate and give birth to a new controller.

However, in the current beta stage, it only works with tomato soup.

More news as I get it.

i heard they could absorb mushrooms to grow into a snes controller, only turning back when you throw them at the wall or stomp on them, effects with magic stars are somewhat unpredicatble though

Sometimes electronics turn out to be far more durable than you think that they will.

Once I was sat with my Dad drinking some beers watching a movie when we heard an odd noise from the washing machine. Went to have a look at it and there was my Technics Hi Fi remote control spinning round in the centre of the washing machine window. Nothing that I could do about it as it was mid cycle, so went back to the movie and had another beer expecting it to be dead anyway. Once the spin cycle kicked in (which I was slightly too drunk to realise I could have turned off) I was convinced that it was totally dead.

When it had finished my Dad persuaded me that if I took the batteries out and put it on a radiator to dry it would be fine.

Turns out he was right still working to this day, just a pity that the hot water and soap lifted off all the labelling....

A friend of mine dropped his mobile into a pint, i believe it was 80'. Removed battery and sim and left it to dry. Next day the keys were a bit sticky so he drenched it in WD40. Worked for months after
