Iiyama are one of the oldest and best known monitor companies and have been around since 1973.

Agreed, although I remember spec'ing an Iiayma CRT display for our computer centre operator's PC in late 80's/early 90's - because "it was the best available", and actually the picture was pretty sharp, colours clear - so probably worth the price premium we paid. Although I've got to wonder if, like Mercedes, their quality has taken a dive in order to remain price-competitive.

Interesting to read in the article that it's "function over form" - perhaps I'm too jaded, but I thought it looked quite appealing - reminiscent of quite a few Samsung designs. 27" is too large for me, so maybe I can find a decent 23-24" from Iiyama to replace my current LG...

I think it has up to a degree.

However,regarding the Casecom power supply remark - I would be epic if Hexus could test some sub £30 PSUs and see which ones are less likely to explode!!

Surely you can get much more cost effective TN displays for less than £300 even with the features that Iiyama is boasting. Yeah they were great in the CRT business, but, this is not the same industry any more. Trying to sell standard TN screens with a few features thrown in, even with good response times, is never worth £300.

Iiyama continuing their downmarket spiral I see.

I still have a Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 454 19" Diamondtron CRT boxed which could hit 2048x1536@80hz, 1920x1440@85hz, 1600x1200@100hz etc back in the day.

I keep wishing they would make a highend IPS 2560x1600 30" or even a 2560x1440 27" and maybe recapture some past glory but probably too late for that.

Sigh, when I read the header I was hoping to read a review on a 1440p monitor. I just don't understand why companies are pandering to the "FULL HD 1080P" marketing - I can understand it for TV's because there is no content better than 1080p atm but for a computer monitor I want real estate! I bought my 1900x1200 monitor 4 years ago for £190 try finding one now for that price! cheapest on scan is: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/24-dell-u2412m-ips-led-monitor-anti-glare-full-hd-dvi-displayport-1920x1200-300cd-m2-10001-8ms-4xusb and it's not as good as my Syncmaster IMO.

Yeah me too.

Just wonder when 'official' (ie not hacked Catleaps on eBay) 2560x1440 IPS 120hz monitors will start shipping here from S. Korea. Probably when the Koreans have already moved on to 3840 x 2400

Edit: I also have fond memories of the mahousive 22" IIyama 514 I had - now I scour the interweb for them (and hooded LaCie Diamondtron 22" and Sony/SGI/Sun 24" CRTs). Some are still going strong a dozen or more years after production ceased. But of course any available are 'collection-only', unsurprising given their weight, and why even if every1 begged for CRTs to be reintroduced for colour proofing and lag-free gaming excellence, no manufacturer would bother

Sort of sums up what I just thought. Even though the price isn't all that bad ( 27'' as well 120Hz panels do get expensive ) TN is, it least for my personally, dead. If there was a panel that would be IPS, 120Hz, 27'' and cheaper like 200 pounds, I think I would be sold right there.

Also, as to why there is so many 3D TV's than there's PC monitors, one needs pretty capable HW to run some of the modern games in 3D, afaik and that doesn't come very cheap.

its a shame i was looking forward to this to replace my 3 ips eyefinity setup with one screen to be able to reclaim some of my desk. I would put up with the poorer colour to have a 27" 120hz screen.
