so it matches the 22 month old 7970@ 1ghz then - some games the 770 is faster and some its slower. all for more money than a 7970 - BUT at least £40 LESS than a slower GTX 680.

Interesting note about the boost being 1,136.6MHz most of the time for a supposed reference of 1,085Mhz - this is going to make choosing a non-reference OC model all the more tricky. I was thinking the same thing and had a look on Scan - not one of them has that cooler.

Disappointing the card doesn't bridge the performance gulf between the gtx680 and gtx780.

Bagging a couple of EOL 4gb gtx680's for sub £600~ might ease the disappointment.

So,its basically around the same speed as the HD7970GE which has been around since June last year,costs around the same and comes with less games too. Meh.

Its also quite weird how many reviews don't seem to compare it with GTX670 cards,which are already cheaper and many of which are pre-overclocked and already GTX680 level.

None of Nvidia's partners are releasing the card with the Titan cooler. It's just another scam by Nvidia - use the Titan cooler to get better boost performance and plaudits for their "$399" card that is cool and quiet, while the actual 770 you buy will lose to the 7970 GHz more often that not and have a cooler nowhere near this performance.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised here?
We all knew exactly what the 770 was already, a slightly faster 680 for slightly less money.

We know this isn't a next gen product, but it's undeniably a better deal than the old 680.

This is the only reason I'm remotely excited by this launch! Other than that it's just a cynical rebadge to me.

Nobody is surprised by the performance. What is surprising is that the tech press continues to let Nvidia away with these benchmarking shenanigans. The card you buy will not perform like in reviews because the card is pushed to the maximum with a very good "press edition" cooler.

Isn't that at least partially your own fault for not checking a review of the card you *actually bought* rather than one for a reference model that's got the same GPU number? There are multiple forms of coolers for every GPU out there some of which offer better cooling/overclocking etc than others, most buyers should realise that by now... And which cooler ships is more down to the OEMs than NVidia surely...
