One thing you didnt seem to mention in the article (altho its assumed), do you need master/slave cards with these ?

Perhaps the greatest feature integrated into X1950 Pro is internal CrossFire, which, finally, removes the need to purchase a specific master card and attachment via an external dongle, through DVI, for the most-efficient multi-GPU fun. ATI has integrated the compositing engine required for CrossFire on to the RV570 GPU itself, and two regular RV570s can be coupled together via a couple of SLI-like bridges for inter-card communication. Driver software then configures one card as master and the other, as you probably have guessed, as the slave.

It's amazing it took ATI how long to do a little market research and realize the obvious!

Were these tests done on crossfire with two cards? or with 1? I can only afford 1 card (125 each), will only 1 be crap? Or will it be good for most current games until I can afford another one and make use of the crossfire capabilities? Thanks.

Ok, so its software crossfire, but does it mean you still need a crossfire motherboard or can you use a SLI one?

No, it's still hardware crossfire, the inter-GPU signal is just routed internally instead of externally. You still need a crossfire mobo though.
