25 quid more expensive than a 460 and only a few FPS better, i'll stick with getting 2 of those..especially because the price will now drop

That would be great. Toms already showed it working with SC2, but apparently it didn't work with BC2. Trying to think what games would be cool to show it, Mass Effect 2 maybe as it has no AA option ingame?

Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 cards benchmarked and reviewed

When I first looked at the review after skipping to the results, I thought this was a terrible release: here is a card that is no better than my 5850. Then I got to the end and realised that the 8 part now effectively represents the midrange, and it'll be the 6900 cards that will be the proper high end replacement. Now I have that knowledge, these 6800 cards make alot more sense, and with the lower pricing relative to the older series, seem like very good buys!

Did the partner supplied HD6850's feature 960 shaders like they should or the 1,120 shaders that were accidentally enabled on some review models?

The overclocking results show that the 900mhz 6850 is just a little behind the 6870.

Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 cards benchmarked and reviewed

HD 6850 numbers are from a 960-core card.

The overclocked 6850 running at 900MHz/4,300MHz would have been quicker than a stock HD 6870 if it was the 1,120-core version.

The reviews with the 1,120-core HD 6850 part show it to be around 10 per cent slower than the HD 6870, which makes sense once you factor out the frequency differences, considering that they're essentially the same card

Ours is 16 per cent slower in Just Cause 2 and 18 per cent slower in AvP.

So, MLAA is hardware based ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Define hardware?

Not so easy when you're talking about shader parts. MLAA is DirectCompute, which leverages flexible dx11 level shader hardware.

    It's not fixed function hardware.

Thought so, seen as its been used on PS3 games. It just seemed odd that its included on AMD slides but not Nvidia ones unless I've missed it being mentioned ofc.

Are Nvidia cards even capable of this MLAA?

Re: Reviews - AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 cards benchmarked and reviewed

Out of curiousity, and without trying to offend anybody - why would anybody buy stock cards?

Surely it pays to wait and see what the non reference cards are like as well as the 69xx range?
