I've no idea why anybody in their right mind would purchase this.
Seconded, I bought a dual GPU laptop back when 680Ms were brand new, I've regretted it since then. It's still got the kick for serious gaming but I need more display outputs, better cooling, and generally I don't need what little portability it has. There are some people I know with genuine reasons for big laptops, they move every couple of months or so to far flung parts of the world but for average joes? Buy a laptop with portability and a sensible amount of GPU power.
Ugliest laptop I've seen in a while!
how come nobody notices that there is no palm rest?! Oh right, nobody actually tries using it, just does 4 clicks on goes "oh yeah its very fast". Think about actually gaming on this - your hands will go numb in like 30min. Worst design 2015?
I could see some of these ideas being implemented to some extent in other laptops. Although it might not work very well, the touchpad/numpad idea is nice. You could even have the touchpad in the normal spot and give it numpad capability for a 14" laptop, for example. All laptops should have an easy-access panel like that. And at least one M.2 slot.
Now that Lenovo is selling the Y50 with an IPS screen, all they need to do is update it with an M.2 slot and maybe have a 970 model and they'll have a winner.
Its not for me but i do like to see companies pushing the technology envelope.
Eventually advancements and modifications will make laptops such as this quieter, leaner, better.
There tends to be a binary view of computers, desktop or laptop, why not something thats a shade of grey, that blurs the lines. To me laptops like the MSI are more akin to all in one desktops.
While the price is genuinely offputting the form factor is good for someone with limited space who wants to be able to store their pc away after use but wants something with a fair size display and plenty of power.
Its still far more portable and compact than an itx system if you include a monitor as part of the itx system. Who wants to lug something like that around.
It's awesome and all, and yes I know this is purely for those that have more money than sense..but you could build a 4K capable rig with SLI 980s, AND a 65" 4K TV to go with it!
I want it so much better than my Desktop PC, but where so much money to take ...
Aside from all the points already discussed above, it still baffles me how so many people think that just going 4K is going to massively improve user experience on a panel of the MSI's size. Apparently having sub-60fps at 4K is preferred to having frame rates in excess of what the panel can output at lower resolution that at the same time allows for a modicum of gaming futureproofing.
By comparing the power consumption and benchmark scores with rival machines, I think this is a well designed powerful and smart gaming laptop. But the question is, do you relly need it?
Just think of the specs on a desktop you could get for the same price!
