Re: Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti OC

I just received an EVGA FE (I want to add the hybrid AIO later). I did a very quick OC on the card, nothing crazy. Changed the fan model to push up the RPMs (yes it’s a bit noisier but game with headphones, at Idle its quiet)

I have a i5-6600K OC’d. Below is my score from the first run on Time Spy. The card was sitting at 65-68c the whole test if I remember right.

    /spy/1474573

    Score: 8635

The FE card happily boosted to 2050mhz. Memory was about 300+. I’m going to do more tests over the weekend as only has 1h30m last night to give it a go, including some gaming.

Seeing as the test bench for HEXUS is a i7-6700k (hyper threading) it’s hard to compare directly but there isn’t much in it.

Basically what I’m saying is without a bar on the chart for a Founders Edition OC’d to the same boost as the Strix, you can’t compare very well.

What it seems you are paying for is less noise as performance of the FE when the blower is ramped up is pretty close, if not the same. You are definitely not getting a 14.3% (£100/£700) increase of performance vs the price. Looking at the Charts the Strix OC+ is 7.45% faster vs the Stock FE, Versus an OC’d FE there would be even less difference so you’d end up paying 14% more for 2% performance boost (and a little less noise).

Hexus, how about running the FE at the same boost speeds as you did the Strix, also change up the fan curve as out the box its throttled!

Asus could turn round and say it's fifty quid, but the price I pay is still down to whatever the shop charges me for it.

You'll find that *EVERYTHING* in the UK is expensive. If Asus the Evil really are dictating to us what price the retailer must charge us for our products, then it's just business as usual, really and they will charge whatever people will pay.
In fact, that's how it goes - Companies charge and charge and charge until people turn around and say, "I'm not paying that!!!".... because that's how people generally shop.
They don't go through that wall of text and links you posted, researching market trends and conversion rates and whatever other guff was in all that... They ask, " 'ow much is it, guv?" and if it's more than they want to pay, they don't buy it.

So post whatever you like about Asus and make us all aware of their evil plans... Nothing will change until retailers stop ordering product in, on the basis that no customer will buy them. Once the retailer buys them in, Asus has made their money and won't give a toss. Doesn't matter to them if they go unsold and the retailer goes bankrupt... But no retailer order, no money for Asus.

Could easely afford it but I don't really have to the 1080 I have now is fine, no need for a ti version, besides maybe next time when a card is released being able to run at 100 FPS min at 4K ultra settings any game or so.

That is not going to happen anytime soon though.

Couldn't agree more. I went with a 1070 until I pulled the trigger on a 1080 to boost my 1440p monitor a little. The numbers game with GPUs now seems to be producing diminishing returns for the majority of regular consumers now.
