    Re: H3XU5.LAN - 20/21/22nd November 2009 - Uttoxeter

Well, I've so far installed Eve, Steam, CoD4 and Supreme Commander on my Win7 x64. With Eve, I found I had to run DirectX setup for 9c for it to work. Hopefully that'll fix any problems I might have with the others. Tonight I'll try Generals. I've also ordered Grid and UT Anthology (since my Game stores don't have either in stock) this week. If I can be bothered, I might try the Battlefiled series, but that'll probably wait until next week.

well the GAME shop in southport has about 20 pc games left in stock, none of which are the ones i still need

i'm relying on a scouser and a scotsman to bring their laptops in for me to have a fiddle with, just so i can earn a bit more money so i can do a last minute order of games next week.

i'm leaving my vista 64 installation well alone, it boots up, alright it takes 4 minutes to do so, but it boots.

other than that, i'm all set, raring to go and whatnot.

dont know whether i mentioned, but my dad bought a cheap load of computer bits from an auction last week, so i have a 15" lcd monitor all of my own, so i dont need to borrow one now.

Well, Zero Hour worked fine on Win7. I do remember now that I had a problem before with it, and to fix it you just had to rename the folder in the My Documents folder; one of the settings files had become corrupted.

    Flatout2 also works as well!

Grrrr. There must be some answer to this, my system looks virtually the same as yours! This is the only game I can't get running!

Hmm, that's my old system; I need to update that.

What is it actually doing then? Just getting to the splash screen and then quitting out? It's highly unlikely to be the hardware. Have you installed DirectX 9? Apparently Win7 comes with DirectX 11, and sometimes games miss some files from 9.

Yeah, it hangs at the splash screen and then tells me there's some sort of serious error after a minute or so.

Not sure how I might install DX9 under 11, the updater always seems to install the most recent version.

That sounds like the problem I had. I seem to remember Googling it and it being a corrupt settings file. As I mentioned above, I moved the entire Generals folder from My Documents folder, and it seemed to sort it out. Not sure if that's still the case for Windows 7 though.

I've seen a solution which involves creating a new config file in the My Documents folder but that didn't work for me.

I'll try deleting the Generals folders in My Documents and see if it can figure itself out from there.

having recently got a 1u dev server i was thinking that we could load it up with the following servers.

    ut99
    ut2k4
pure faction( Red faction 1 with lan multi-player)
    goldeneye:source
    cod4 zombie mod
    Ts2

it's a compaq dl360 g4 so it is plenty powerful to run all those together.

if people think its a good idea i'll bring it along pm rash to see if he is okay with the idea if it's popular

GTA IV would be cool. Haven't got it on the PC, but looks like it's £15 to get.
