Forum Request - 15K Character limit increase.

I would like to see the maximum characters increased from 15,000 to 20,000 - it's more of a personal request because I have threads on the Abit forums that need to go over 15,000 characters so I can include all the infomation neccesary for people to see.

On the other 4 or 5 forums I have these threads they dont have this limit - I cannot see it being a major problem, but hope you can alter it.

You can always spread it over two posts..

Well other forums dont suffer from any problems & they dont have a limit of how many characters they have.

The official Abit forums block editing access after a period of a month or so, the moderators/admin say their is a justified reason because people delete valuable infomation they posted from months/years ago.

All I want is things to be straight forward, but its just all awkward as I make the threads from one forum to the next. Gets to the point I cant be bothered anymore, I'll just make my posts on the xtreme forum instead.

Hello there, I'm wanting to update my thread i.e. **Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

    vBulletin Message
The text that you have entered is too long (16727 characters). Please shorten it to 15000 characters long.
Can you please alter the message board settings so I can include all the info neccesary on my thread please.

I dont have this problem on the other 4 forums I do my posts.

do it in the style like everyone else does
    HOWTO: Overclock C2D Quads and C2D Duals - A Guide v1.0
split it across the posts and ask a mod to put all your posts to the top if people reply in between.

I had 2 spaces below my original thread, so luckily I could do it as above.

None of the forums below have this silly 15000 letters maximum rule.

**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread** - Extreme Systems Forums.

**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread** - Overclockers UK Forums.

**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread** - Universal Abit Forums.

I cant say I'm happy, on the Abit Forums you cant edit your original threads after like one month, some moderators have e-mail sending disabled so cant send them updates & sending them updates via forum messaging is limited to 5000 characters lol.

If the owners of this forum actually read this, I hope you can look into increasing the maximum characters/letters per post to at least 17,000 from 15,000.

It just makes my life/hassle easier, I do my threads volunterily out the goodness of my heart the less hassle the better it is for me, takes enough time looking into whats updated let alone having to alter my standard thread to suit reidiculous forum rules or have to find the holy grail on the Abit forums trying to get my thread updated because editing is disabled after a certain length of time.

I don't think they are going to change it just for you, when people suggest things it's for the benefit of all users. Just use the split post method I don't understand whats wrong with that. It's not a silly rule they must have set it for a reason. You're coming across as lazy if you can't split the post. It's not very hard.

I appreiciate your suggestion in regards to the split method, many thanks.

I coudnt care less what you think in terms of what can & cannot be done, you dont run the forums so its nothing to do with you. I've been using forums the the last 12 years from EZBoards through to Bulletin boards, never had a problem like this before.

The maximum is 15,000 characters what difference is 2,000 more going to make.

I think it should be bigger... spammers can always split their spam too so that argument is not good

Agreed, also deliberate spammers can be banned via their actual user or even their I.P. Address.

Biting another user's head off because he posted a message suggesting there may well be a reason behind the limit, and as such it may not change immediately won't get you very far.

Have you tried sending a PM to MD or DR? Get them to look into it if they have not already seen this post, and see their thoughts on the matter.

Yeah I don't run the forums, but the admins aren't your bitches either. Changing the limit because

    is such a great reason.

I might as well ask for them to give me more pm inbox space because I pm alot.

If the rules are ridiculous why use the forums?

It's like your forcing your way on here. Just deal with the limit for now and update your post, don't just hang on this character limit thing till you get your way...
I didn't go whining when I couldn't post more than 22 pictures in a post. If you really wanted to give your help to the Abit users you'd just post it (split method) and then continue with this "need" afterwards with the mods.

It wasn't the main point I was making rather a joke, but it seems Nelly is too much of a toff to use the split method

It's being looked at, guys, and I'm discussing it with the other admins and the guys that do the site coding.

Whether it happens or not will depend on what, if any, issues there are.

First of all my apologies if I sounded like I was whining/snotty that was not my intention, I've got the answer I needed as posted below.

This forum section is here for this specific reason, hence why I posted here & not sent a PM to a random mod/admin, I dont wish this to turn into a silly argument so lets leave it at that thankyou.

    Thanks for your time.

Re: Forum Request - 15K Character limit increase.

The limit won't be increased, there are various reasons for this, and to answer one of them I will do so against the 'spammer' theory.

Alot of the spam posted on forums is done by bots, they auto login to the forum without the user even visiting, by having the limit we have it means that these bots fail to make the post over 15,000 and the spammer moves on - so this limit IS effective in reducing spam.

There are various other reasons which I won't go into, but at the same time, the forums are open to suggestions which we feel add value and do not compromise the way we have them.

If others choose to increase thier limits that is their perogative. I would point out though that the attitude towards the way we run things and the way members have responded on this request is not really going to help any request - although on this occasion it has not affected our decision associated with it.

    Regards

    Matt.

    Thanks for the reply MD.

How about increasing limit for users with more than 100 posts?
